"People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus called the children to him and said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."

(Luke 18:15-17)

In this touching scene, Jesus embraces the youngest of humans (who represented the most overlooked in society at that time) despite the disciples' (and Jesus’s most committed followers') concerns. He shows us that children bring a unique perspective that we, as grown-ups, should treasure as we guide and nurture them. This scene also reveals to us how Jesus views us all as wonderfully made individuals with extreme value. This verse teaches us that we are all loved without condition or exception. Just as Jesus valued each child’s presence, we all have a responsibility to make all around us feel cherished and loved for who we are.

Children also possess an uncanny knack for attacking life’s issues, problems and challenges, with a unique perspective. How many times have we heard a child speak more insightfully than an adult in such a way that we never would have expected? And how often do we hear of children embracing problems and designing solutions to issues in creative ways that adults are seemingly incapable of doing?

Jesus reminds us that children have much more capacity than what we sometimes give them credit for. It is therefore up to us all to nurture their journey and encourage their creativity so that they understand their value and feel appreciated. And as we journey with our children, let us remember that learning goes both ways. Just as we guide them, they teach us about the purity of love, forgiveness, and living in the moment.

As parents and caregivers, we have the incredible honour of nurturing young souls. Let's carry forward the lessons from Luke 18:15-17 and build a space of love, acceptance, and growth for all within our care.

This week at the Middle College assembly I spoke about the importance of clear, positive collaboration in all areas of our Pacific Lutheran Community. Students and staff heard a strong message about the importance of connecting well with others.

Collaboration inside the classroom involves students coming together, bringing their unique ideas, opinions, perspectives, and abilities. This interaction encourages them to recognize and respect the strengths in each other. Through collaborative tasks and discussions, they learned the profound value of collective insight, empathy, and compromise. This value of collaboration extends far beyond the classroom and permeates all areas of our College. In co-curricular activities, wider community engagements, and Pacific Action Group initiatives, students interact with their peers and teachers on many different levels. These experiences facilitate the development of a deep-seated appreciation for the unique talents and viewpoints that each person possesses.

Collaboration is a vessel through which compassion is cultivated. Inside the classroom, students learn the art of active listening and empathetic communication. They learn to understand differing viewpoints and work towards solutions that accommodate everyone's perspectives. This compassionate approach fosters an environment of trust, where all voices are valued and heard. When we work alongside each other in this way we can truly achieve extraordinary things.

We wish the Year Six students and staff all the very best as they embark on a truly wonderful experience in our Nation’s capital next week. Clear collaboration will most definitely be evident as the students and staff work together to learn from the vast experiences, they will be immersed in.

The intersection of science education and industry innovation is a dynamic force that propels our society towards progress, and this article explores how National Science Week in primary schools plays a pivotal role in igniting this innovation to power future industries.

At its core, National Science Week serves as an annual celebration of science and its impact on our lives. For our students, it's a time when the classroom transforms into a laboratory of exploration, curiosity, and wonder. Hands-on experiments, interactive workshops, and engaging demonstrations help students develop an early passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects. This early exposure sets the stage for a lifelong interest in these fields and paves the way for future innovators.

During National Science Week, our students are encouraged to think critically, solve problems, and approach challenges with creativity. Participating in science activities requires them to ask questions, make predictions, experiment, and analyze results. These skills are the building blocks of innovation – the ability to identify problems, generate novel solutions, and adapt to changing circumstances. Nurturing these skills from a young age lays the groundwork for students to become adaptable and resourceful thinkers, which are essential traits for future industry leaders.

Innovation is a cornerstone of progress, and National Science Week helps cultivate the innovation mindset from a young age. When students are encouraged to explore, question, and experiment, they develop the confidence to challenge the status quo and envision new possibilities. These young minds are not constrained by traditional thinking and are more likely to generate revolutionary ideas that can shape future industries.

The industries of tomorrow will heavily rely on advancements in science and technology. Fields like renewable energy, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and space exploration are poised to reshape our world. National Science Week acts as a springboard for the development of the future workforce that will drive these industries. By inspiring our students to embrace science and innovation, we are equipping them with the skills and mindset needed to propel these industries forward.

National Science Week at Pacific is more than just a fun-filled week of experiments and activities; it is a crucial catalyst for future innovation and industry growth. By nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and a passion for science from a young age, we are sowing the seeds for a generation of thinkers and doers who will shape the industries that power our world. Studying University subjects while you are at school (Year 10 and 11)

If you would like to know more about your options to study university subjects while you are in Year 11 or 12, you might like to attend an upcoming information webinar hosted by QUT. The webinar will provide information on how the START QUT program works for school students, who are eligible, and how to apply. Please note, you will need to have an appointment with the Head of Career Development to discuss how your enrolment in university subjects will impact your program of study here at school.

Expressions of interest now open for 2024 courses at Kawana Health Education Unit (Year 10)

Students in Year 10 who would like to include the Dual Health Certificate course in their Year 11 and 12 study program should submit their expression of interest as soon as possible. This program is offered through the Kawana Health Education Unit, and the attached flyer provides all details about the course options. Please note this program is an external option only: students may need to make their own way to Kawana for classes each week. Classes run for four hours each week: either in the morning or in the afternoon. Students will therefore miss classes here at school while they are at Kawana and will be responsible for keeping up with the work they miss. The Expression of Interest Form is attached. Completed forms should be handed to Mr Learoyd.

The SCTTTC offers pre-vocational Trade courses, as well as courses in Beauty and Aviation. You can view their course offerings here. Students in Year 10 who would like to include one of these courses in their Year 11 study program should submit their expression of interest as soon as possible. Please note all of the courses at the Trade Training Centre require students to attend the Centre for one full school day each week, so students miss a full day of classes here at school on that day every week and will be responsible for keeping up with the work they miss. Please seek a meeting with Mr Learoyd to discuss your options if you are interested in these courses.

Weekly worship services are held at 14 Bombala Terrace Caloundra at 9.00am. We are thankful that we can meet together each week for worship. As we do this, there are still physical distancing, and hygiene requirements we need to follow to ensure the health and safety of everyone in our community.
