Senior Schools Cup Volleyball
Congratulations to our PLC Senior Girls team who won their Grand Final in the 12 Girls Div 2 Senior Schools Cup competition last weekend. Senior Schools Cup is a Queensland-wide competition with hundreds of teams competing at venues across the Gold Coast. Division 2 was split into a number of sections and we competed against schools from Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Darling Downs.
The girls went undefeated throughout the competition and won their Grand Final 2-0 against a side that they only narrowly beat on the first day. Marina Krueger was named player of the finals.
Their success is a testament to their hard work over the last few years in SCISSA volleyball, Trish Buckley and regular training. They were ably supported by coach Sarah Ashdown who has played a huge role in improving the girls' skills over the last 2 years. A big thank you to Mrs Leah Croke and Ms Tiffany Harmon for their considerable generosity of time and energy in supporting these girls on this trip. Without the input of these staff, these girls would not have had this opportunity.
We hope to continue the strong achievements of our PLC volleyball teams into next year.
Basketball
A big congratulations to our PLC Girls Basketball Team who competed in the Champion Basketball Schools Queensland Wildcard Trials on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Any teams that have not played in CBSQ must trial for their spot and there were over 20 teams fighting for 4 entry spots into the State Titles held in September. Our students have played exceptionally well and went undefeated throughout the trials, earning their spot in CBSQ. This is the first female team that PLC has had compete at State Titles. Thank you to coach Brooklyn Graves and manager Brad Burdon for the time and energy that has gone into preparing this team for the competition.
SCISSA Touch Football
It was another great round of SCISSA Touch Football with only 1 narrow loss recorded for the week. While the Junior Girls went down 3-1, they were still competitive against a well-versed opposition. Our Intermediate Girls Team 2 and Senior Boys took their games down to the wire and finished with a couple of handy draws against tough teams. Congratulations to Junior Boys Teams 1 and 2, along with Junior Girls Team 2 for their great wins. We have many of our teams currently sitting in the top 4 with half the season to go. We wish our teams all the best in their fixtures next week.
Student Acknowledgement
Congratulations to Tom Ackhurst for his recent success at the Regional Ski Championships in Perisher in July (2 gold and 1 silver medal). Tom has now qualified and has been invited to compete in the Australian National Ski Championships at Mt Buller from 4th-11th September, where he will represent Pacific Lutheran College. Well done!
