A big welcome back from the Sport Department. We hope to see many of our students enjoying the sport opportunities on offer at PLC this year.

Introduction Information

There has been a lot of information sent out over the past 2 weeks via TASS. Communication through TASS included an introduction letter with lots of information on PLC sport, as well as correspondence about representative sports.

This year, the PLC Sports Department will be using different communication platforms for consent, information and scheduling of all PLC sport activities. The Operoo program will be replaced with the following –

  • All sporting consent will be sent through Parent Lounge via TASS
  • Parent information and scheduling for all sports activities will be communicated via a new program called “Clipboard”.
  • Training and fixture details will be accessible through the NAV calendar once students are allocated into teams and draws have been released. (

The weekly Compass will also be used to pass on information regarding upcoming sporting opportunities and events, as well as competitive sports results, updates and celebrations of student sporting achievements. Please share your child’s achievements in an outside school sports event and we will endeavor to acknowledge them in our weekly Compass Newsletter.

Competitive Sport

Students will have the opportunity to sign up and participate in several competitive sports teams throughout the year. These teams play outside of school hours, generally on a weekday afternoon/early evening. We encourage all students to play in at least one competitive sports team per semester to maximise their engagement (and enjoyment) within the College community (as an added benefit, they will have a lot of fun). All competitive sport sign-ups are done online via the Clipboard link which will be available to students on the 7-12 Sport NAV Page. Students will be told in advance about signing up and it is a very quick procedure to access a signup portal. If there are any issues with signing up, they should contact a member of the PLC Sports Department.

Students in competitive teams will be provided with playing shirts/singlets/jerseys throughout the year. It is important to note that these are on loan to students just for the duration of the season and need to be returned at the conclusion of the season, otherwise, there will be a fee charged for any unreturned items.

Weekly Friday Sport

Each week students from Yr 7-12 will participate in sporting activities on a Friday afternoon. These activities range from competitive sport training, sport development sessions for upcoming competitive sports, and sport-for-life options which provide students with a variety of physical activity and movement opportunities. As mentioned in other communications, a small fee has been added to sport-for-life options that engage with outside providers. The College continues to heavily subsidises these engaging skill, health, and fitness development opportunities.

Friday Sport Schedule

Yr 11-12 Sport: 12.15pm - 1.15pm

Yr 7-10 Sport: 1.45pm - 3.15pm

Please note, this means that all students will be finishing at 3.15pm on Friday afternoons.

Swimming Carnival

Inter-House Swimming Carnival

12 and 13 years nominations for competitive events have already been collected and all nominations have been accepted without trials being required. 14 years – 18 years nominations will be collected on Friday morning during House assemblies. All students will have an opportunity to be in the pool and get points for their House on the day.

ALL students must:

  • be at their allocated meeting places (TBC) by 8.25am
  • attend and are encouraged to swim (where possible)
  • wear the correct House uniform and swimmers as outlined in this letter
  • return on buses in completely dry clothes
  • not be on mobile devices on buses or at the pool
  • swim in House coloured swim caps (provided on the day) for all events
  • students are permitted to dress up (zinc, costumes, etc.) but must do this once they arrive at school

A full program with further details will be sent to parents prior to the carnival.

District Carnival

The fastest 4 freestyle students and the fastest 2 students in backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly will be selected in the PLC Swim Team to represent the College on Monday 20th February at a twilight carnival held at Sunshine Coast Grammar Pool.  Notification will be sent home via TASS for students who are selected. Students who are in the 12 years age division will have their times integrated with the Junior carnival results and selections will be made from this listing. The 9-12 years Independent District Carnival will take place during school on Tuesday 21st February.

Information has been sent out recently to Year 7 and 8 students and families regarding sign-up and trialing for the Monday night netball season, beginning on the 27th February. Please note that the trial date for Year 7 and 8 netball girls’ trial will change from the 31st January to the 7th of March in order to account for Year 8 students on camp. Unfortunately, dates were set for trials before the Year 8 camp had been confirmed last year. Netball trials will be held on the rear PLC courts from 3.15pm- 4.45pm. Please email netball coordinator Michelle Dufty ( if you have any questions.

All other year level students will be meeting their coaches over the next few weeks and getting organised with a training schedule. Players will be advised when to collect a playing dress from the Sports Office. Game schedules will be available on the NAV calendar when the draw is released.

Student Acknowledgements

Each week we aim to celebrate outstanding student achievement in their sporting pursuits, both inside and outside school sport.

We congratulate the following students on their excellent efforts in their sporting pursuits throughout the holiday period:

  • Emily Lengenberg competed at the QLD State Swimming Titles at Chandler. She achieved 5th place in 400m Freestyle, 6th in 200m Butterfly and 7th in 800m Freestyle. Emily was also able to qualify for and will be competing at the Australian National Titles in 9 events this year. Those events include the 50m, 100m and 200m Butterfly, 50m, 100m and 200m Backstroke plus the 200m, 400m and 800m Freestyle. We wish Emily all the best for the National Titles.
  • Isabella Stammers achieved an Australian National Open Water qualification time for the 5km championships. Only 67 children from her age group achieved this in Australia. This is a great achievement, and we wish her all the best at the National championships in Busselton, WA.
  • Tom Chessell represented QLD at the Australian U18 National Championships for Baseball held in Blacktown in January. QLD ended up making the gold medal game, and with some very good plays by both teams, we came away the winners 7-5.  Well done to Tom for contributing highly with batting and pitching in the final game.
