Basketball
Congratulations to our Intermediate A Girls, Intermediate B Boys and Junior C Girls for dominant wins in their semi-final matches last week. They are all through to the Grand Final on Friday!
The Intermediate F Boys put a huge effort in to their match and almost won their game as well. They had a great comeback and were within 2 points right at the end of the game. Unfortunately, they came up short of the win. Well done to the whole team and to their coach, Nick Masson for his great work with the boys. There was quite a good support crew there as well. A big thank you to all for their commitment to their team and for representing themselves and the College so well.
The Junior C Girls had a comfortable 64-18 win which looked easy, but it was only because the girls executed their game plan to perfection in one of their best games of the season. It was a great team performance. Well done girls. Eva Carey was our top scorer, Isla Lendrum and Tana Ajex were our top passers and Mya Masson was sensational at shooting! Ruby O’Neill and Summer Naumann were tenacious defenders. Well done to all.
Our Intermediate A Girls are our only “A division” team in the competition this year. After finishing the season with only 1 loss, they came up against 3rd-placed SAAC. The girls had a great first quarter and looked like they were going to cruise to victory. However, some issues in offence let the opposition in and made it a close game. However, thanks to some great free throw shooting late in the game by Jazlyn Miller, some awesome 1 on 1 defence by Jess Watkins and a gritty non-stop effort from Laayla McAuliffe along with the rest of the team, they managed to secure a 30-24 victory. The girls will have to be near-perfect in order to defeat their MFAC opponents in the Grand Final, but with the addition of some players coming back from injury, a victory is certainly a possibility. This final will be a great battle. Well done to coach Brooklyn Graves for her work with the girls and expert coaching.
Intermediate B Boys got off to a strong start in a physical game and managed to hold their nerve when SAAC came back strongly to get within 4 points in the second quarter. However, some great team defence and unselfish and aggressive offence at the start of the third quarter sealed the game early for the boys. They held the opposition to only 4 points in the 4th and managed to win the game 46-21! In order to get the win again Suncoast in their Grand Final, the boys will have to maintain their defensive intensity, attack the basket consistently, play smart and be able to keep their turnovers in the full court down. If they can do this, they should walk away with Gold! Well done to Mr Brad Burdon for his work with the team all season. Too many great performances to name players individually – a great team effort!
It would be wonderful to get as many spectators to our Grand Finals games as we can get (see times below). If you are able to attend, it would be great to have everyone in their PLC uniforms for this. Please remember that you are still on display representing the College, so all must be positive toward our team, opposition, referees and spectators. Let’s all enjoy a great night of finals basketball together without incident.
All the best to our three remaining teams and their coaches.

SCISSA Rugby 7’s
Congratulations to all our players and coaches on a competitive and successful end of the season for Rugby 7s. There was so much to celebrate from last night’s fixtures, and I would like to express my sincerest thanks for the heart, sportsmanship and commitment demonstrated by all our Pacific players, coaches and supporters last night. Congratulations to our U13 girls, U14 boys and U16 girls who all progressed to the Division 1 grand final last night. This is the first time we have had a team in the Rugby 7s Division 1 final in Pacific history, and to have 3 in the same year is incredible. While our teams weren’t able to clinch the top spot, they should all feel proud of the resilience and determination that they showed on the field and know that they represented Pacific exceptionally. Our U13 and U16 boys, unfortunately, got knocked out in the semi-finals, but again should be proud of how they represented the College across their season. Thanks again for another successful year in Rugby, and I look forward to continuing to grow our program and providing more exciting opportunities for players to get involved next year.
SCISSA Tennis
Our PLC Tennis teams completed their last round of fixtures before finals on Wednesday afternoon. There have been some great individual performances within our teams, and a special mention needs to go to Isabella Welsh for taking out her singles game in Team 1 and Emanuel Espinosa for his win in Team 2. A big thank you to our students and coaches for their commitment to playing in SCISSA Tennis this term, and we look forward to more great tennis in 2023.
Ballinger Hockey Cup
Well done to our Year 7-9 players who competed in the recent Ballinger Cup Hockey tournament. This was the first time we have had a representative PLC Hockey team and all players represented the College exceptionally well. They had some tough games in their division throughout the day but still managed to play themselves into the 3rd vs 4th match. The students participated with great energy and we look forward to more opportunities for our hockey students in the future. A big thank you to Mr Brett Kersnovske for his time and energy in leading the team.
Representative Sport 2023
A draft schedule for trial dates has been put up on the SCISSA website for students and parents interested in district and regional sport trials in 2023. Please note that there may be changes as we head into next year, and updated information will be passed on to PLC students and families at the start of 2023.
