Basketball

Our first week back was a bit of a rough one for our teams. We had a lot of very narrow losses, but the four teams that won, won by large margins. Well done to our Junior C, Intermediate C and Intermediate A Girls, as well as our Intermediate B Boys on big wins. The Intermediate C Girls were great to watch and led from the very start in their first win of the season!!

The team of the week has to be the Junior E Boys who played one of their best games of the season. Despite the loss, they fought hard to the end and are showing great signs of improvement. I can’t wait to see them perform next week.

Our Intermediate B Boys have their game on Tuesday afternoon at Suncoast this week, before they head off to the State School’s Championships on the Gold Coast at the end of the week. We wish the boys all the very best. They have had a great lead-up to the tournament with an undefeated season so far. Thank you to Mr Burdon for all his work with the boys.

SCISSA Rugby 7’s

Our first round of competition in the SCISSA 7’s tournament was incredibly successful. Our U14 Boys started strong winning games against both Sunshine Coast Grammar and Glass House Christian College in their opening round, while narrowly being outplayed by Matthew Flinders Anglican College. Our U16 Boys played with a lot of heart against some very talented opposition, with the majority of their players away on the Year 9 camp.

Our U16 Girls, with their numbers also down due to the Year 9 camp, played exceptionally well against Sunshine Coast Grammar 1sts and 2nds and St Andrews 1sts and 3rds, posting wins against all these teams. Please find the summary of scores below:

Student Acknowledgments

Congratulations to Jessica, Year 10, for her recent success at the annual Archery Australia National Championship, a 5-day event, held in Brisbane last weekend.

At 15 years old, Jessica was selected to represent QLD in the opens team division winning the bronze medal. Jess also participated in the individual Under 18 women’s division where she won silver.

Jessica also won the gold medal in the 2022 U18 Women's Indoor National Archery Championship, achieving the highest points in her division in Australia.

Jess is now in training for monthly tournaments where there is an extremely great chance for selection to represent Australia in the Youth World Titles in Ireland in July 2023.

We are excited to share this news and wish Jess all the very best with her preparation for World Titles.

Well done to Cooper Kiernan (Year 10) who last weekend was the recipient of the Sunshine Coast and Gympie Rugby League Referee Association -  Junior Touch Judge of the Year award for 2022. Cooper was fortunate enough to be presented the award by Andrew Wareham who is the Officiating High-Performance Coach for the QRL.

Cooper has refereed U13’s matches each week as well as performing touch judge roles for the U14s-U16s and was a regular each week for the senior competition and made his Division 1 touch judge debut this year.

Cooper was also one of the referees who officiated the U12 State School Boy Championships as well as the Justin Hodges School Boy Gala Day. Well done, Cooper!

Well done also to Katalina and Luka Stylianou for their high-level officiating responsibilities in football and futsal. They recently had centre official positions in the Sunshine Coast Federation Grand Finals and have been sought after to referee at NPL and Futsal competitions across the state throughout the year. Fantastic achievements by both students!
