Monday Night Netball

We started off very well by having all games played despite the forecast – We arrived at the courts, still no rain, and completed the 4.00pm games. Second-round games started with the rain trickling but by the end of the second quarter we had torrential rain and all games were cancelled. This was very disappointing for the teams that only had half a game as playing a full game would have possibly given a different result.

Student Accomplishments

Well done to the following students for their recent achievements in sport:

  • Joseph Harrys for his selection in the 13-16 years Independent District Football Team. We wish him all the best in the upcoming regional tournament.
  • Elke Madlener (Year 10) competed in the 2022 Australian National Kayak Championships held in Adelaide last week.  Elke received a Bronze Medal in the K4 500m Nationals Final & 5th in the K2 1000m Australian Nationals Final.
  • Jada Baker competed in the 2022 Australian National Canoe Sprint Championships in Adelaide last week. Jada won a Bronze Medal and earned numerous PB’s.

Developing Athletes Program

Our students in the PLC Developing Athletes Program have been working hard in their sessions and have really been impressing the strength coaches from Sunshine Coast Sports Institute. It is great to see this level of commitment from our athletes, and I’m sure that their efforts in the program are transferring to their sporting pursuits. We are always on the lookout for more enthusiastic athletes to invite to the program as we continue to build on our sporting potential at PLC. If you have any questions regarding the program, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

7-12 Inter-House Athletics Carnival

We are looking forward to a break in the weather for our Year 7-12 Interhouse Carnival next Friday! It will be a great opportunity for our students to be able to get out and have a fun day of competition. We are expecting all students to come along and represent their houses on the day. There will be opportunities for all levels of athletes to participate and gain points for their houses. Students will be required to catch the bus to and from school, with the bus schedule to be sent out early next week. A full program will also be sent out at this time. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr West.

A reminder that we are organizing some pre-events that won’t be held on the day of the carnival. The 1500m event for 10-19 years students will be held on Monday 30th at 7.30am on the Meridan AFL Fields and the Javelin event for 13-19 years students being held at lunchtime on the Main Oval. Students need to email Mr West if they are interested in participating in these events. We will also be looking to hold the Triple Jump event purely as a trial for districts. Interested students need to contact Mr West and we will organize a lunchtime to run a trial if we have too many competitors in an age group.
