On Monday, all of Year 3 including myself, walked from Dicky Beach to Currimundi Lake for our school excursion. We were learning about our local environment in Geography, mapping and sustainability.

As we walked we recorded images on our iPads and asked visitors about “why they chose to visit these particular sites”. We analysed our results and drew draft maps of the facilities at each beach area. Once we arrived at the lake, we played enthusiastically in the water and the sand dunes, which was my favourite part of the day. We also had a game of beach cricket. The thing I disliked most was the long walk from Dicky Beach to Currimundi, as it was soooooooooooooo tiring.

I felt weary and sweaty during the walk but when we got to the lake, I was saved. It was awesome to go swimming on a school day and at the end, I got to go home with my mum.

All Year 3 students and staff had a fantastic day and the children conducted themselves well. It was interesting how many found the walk ‘exhausting’, yet still had the energy to race up and down the dunes at the end of the day! Thank you to our wonderful support staff and parents who assisted on the day and made this excursion possible.
