Year 12 RACV Hospitality Work Experience
Year 12 RACV Hospitality Work Experience
Last week, Year 12 Hospitality students participated in a three-day work experience program at RACV Royal Pines, Gold Coast. It was an eye-opening experience that provided insight into the hotel industry and gave students the opportunity to build on their skills. On arrival, students were taken on a tour of the hotel and were shown both front of house and back of house facilities.
During their stay, students immersed themselves in different areas of the hotel and worked alongside RACV staff to cultivate their skills. Students were tested when having to face customers in a professional manner while grasping new skills and techniques, such as polishing cutlery, furthering their barista skills, working in retail and setting up for conferences and events. On the first evening, students and staff enjoyed a three-course meal at the RACV Amici’s Italian restaurant.
On the second day, students engaged in a Mocktail and Cocktail demonstration and workshop with one of RACV’s talented bartenders. This took place on the 21st floor of the hotel, with a view over the golf course, right down to Surfers Paradise. Students learnt how to make a ‘virgin mojito’ and a ‘sunrise’ using a range of equipment.
Students enjoyed new culinary experiences when they dined at RACV’s Teppanyaki restaurant, Arakawa, on the final night. Students feasted on Japanese cuisine that had been freshly cooked right in front of them. The chef was extremely talented, demonstrating dynamic cooking techniques, which made the experience similar to dinner theatre!
Overall, it was a very positive experience and all of our students received extremely high praise from RACV staff. We thank RACV for this important learning opportunity and commend each student on the way they represented themselves and the College.
