This week, the Year 11 cohort attended the annual Rotary Young Drivers Awareness day at Corbould Park. It was an informative day for our young drivers, who explored the effects of the decisions made on the road and the impact that these can have on their lives. One of the highlights for me was listening to ‘Megan’ who was involved in a car accident 26 years ago and the affect it had on her life. Despite her situation, she still had a positive outlook on life but also suffered the daily reminders of how dangerous the roads can be.

My hope for the students involved in the day is that they all walk away with a sense of their responsibility on the roads and an understanding that their decisions can have an impact on both themselves, their family and others on the road.

We are grateful for the opportunity that our students had to experience the day and commend the students’ attitude and effort in participating. Thank you to the staff who volunteered their time (Mr Josh Cummins, Ms Leigh Finter and Mr Damien Evans). A special thank you also to Rotary for organising the day with a range of volunteer helpers and guest presenters. And finally, a big thank you to Neville Woodforth from Rotary for his continued efforts in keeping this program running.
