On Wednesday 3rd August, Year 1 students participated in an exciting excursion to Caboolture Historical Village to explore what life was like in the ‘olden’ days.

Our day started with demonstrations and hands-on experiences. First, students lined up for parade and the school headmaster told us about the way school used to be. Year 1 students enjoyed seeing the prison and old pumps and engines that were used to pump water, generate electricity, and grind grain. We observed a blacksmith at work making various objects out of metal.  The Year 1 students even got to bring back some handmade metal hooks!  We also tried our hand at fossicking and were all rewarded with beautiful coloured gems. Students enjoyed a train ride, experiencing the ways transportation has changed over the years.

After lunch, there was time to explore the many old buildings in the village, including a hospital, a school, a police station, a post office, a general store, a butcher, a barber’s shop, many different types of houses, and lots of other types of buildings.

It was an amazing day, and all students learned a lot about the ways in which things have changed over time. Thank you to our teacher aides for helping on the day.
