YACHTS

We chartered new territory in YACHTS this term as we engaged our love of wisdom to ponder life’s big questions. Our philosophical enquiry encouraged students to reason and think deeply through sharing stories.

Philosophy helps spiritual and moral development whilst also developing speaking and listening skills. Students had the opportunity to voice their thoughts, ideas and opinions while respecting the views of others during spirited group and paired discussions.

Many amazing questions were listed, categorised and used to develop an agenda for discussion. Initially, the first speaker led the discussion as they explained and clarified their point of view. Peers were then invited to build on what had been raised and to further shape the discussion. Students were encouraged and guided to think and reason collaboratively. They were given the opportunity to explore alternatives and expand horizons of thinking. It was a wonderful time for them to connect and interact with a focus on imagining possibilities, analysing concepts and reaching reasonable conclusions.

The students’ incredible exuberance and excellent focus made for brilliant learning.
