Visiting Author Dr Rob Bell

Last week, the library hosted Dr Rob Bell, author, TV presenter and science educator. As part of a joint Science Week and Book Week celebration, Dr Bell talked to the Year 4-6 students about his books and presented a series of fascinating experiments that had students laughing and gasping in amazement. Experiments included exploring sound vibrations using slinkies and tubes, chemical reactions such as slime and giant exploding bubbles, and seeing what happens when a balloon is placed in liquid nitrogen. The students enjoyed predicting what would happen and then trying to come up with a scientific explanation.

Book Week

Book Week kicked off with our Book Parade, where students in K-5 dressed up as book characters and staff joined in the fun by dressing up as characters from Where’s Wally. Lunchtimes in the library were busy, with events happening every day based around this year’s theme of Read, Grow, Inspire. Students could do craft activities such as strawflower painting, colouring in or painting a flowerpot, enter competitions such as Book in a Jar or Little People, Big Dreams, try our Escape Room challenge or take a nature trek in virtual reality.
