Over the last few weeks of the school term, there has been an increasing number of students wearing ‘skate’ shoes with their HPE or sport uniforms. The school policy requires that students are in ‘sports’ joggers with adequate arch support. Skate shoes and other ‘flat’ shoes (such as futsal boots) should not be worn. All students were reminded of this last week and as such we expect that from the start of next term, all are in appropriate footwear.

PCG Photos

Next term, each Pastoral Care Group will have their PCG photos taken for the end of year magazine. Each house will have these spread over two PCG mornings, beginning with Bula house in Week 2, followed by Wira and then Mumba mid-way through the term. All students will be required to attend and be dressed in full formal winter uniform. The Year 12 students will also have their house photos taken during this time. More details will be provided via student notices at the start of next term.

Year 10 LYQ Leadership Day

This week, the Year 10 cohort participated in their first LYQ Leadership Day. Throughout the day, there was good energy amongst the students and it was great to witness their interactions with one another and with the LYQ facilitators. Students engaged in many team-building activities, small group discussions and reflections on social issues facing young adults these days. At the end of the day, the cohort had a chance to look at what kind of influence or culture they would like to create as they journey through their senior years. Overall, I was very proud of the way the whole cohort engaged with the program and we look forward to walking with students as they continue to grow and come together as a group over the remainder of their school life.

3-on-3 Basketball and Ensembles Concert

Last Friday night was a particularly busy evening for the College. At the gymnasium, more than 90 secondary students participated in the annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Twenty-four teams registered to play across three different divisions. Once again, the highlight of the evening was the team ‘uniforms’ and names. I have been running the 3-on-3 competitions for more than eight years now and this was one of the most enjoyable nights I’ve witnessed. Thank you to all students for their involvement, attitude and spirit in which the games were played. Congratulations to the following teams:

  • Middle College boys division winners: ‘Caloundra Heat’ – Ryan Salvesen, Henry Friend, Brock Rudes and Alex Monroe
  • Middle College girls division winners: ‘Wiggy Woo’s’ – Katie Graves, Gabby Gorham, April Romagnoli and Imogen Hiley
  • Senior College mixed division winners: ‘Michael Leonard Hewitt’s’ – Michael Hewitt, Sam Henderson, Joey Hock, Ella Block and Tahlia McGregor

After the 3-on-3, some dedicated students backed up to perform at the Ensembles Concert. Well done to all who performed and congratulations to Mrs Aleisha Tuaine, Mr Steven Lake, Mrs Jenna Woodforth, Mrs Helen Williams and all the instrumental music tutors and technical stage crew who work with such enthusiasm and passion. It was a wonderful celebration of music and talent at the College.

Exchange Students

One year ago, Chloe Mear and Camilla Barstad began their international exchange program at Pacific, organised through Rotary Exchange. During this time, Chloe and Camilla have immersed themselves in the Pacific community and have left a big impact on our staff and students. I know that all Year 12 students will dearly miss both girls, but are also grateful for the experience and the lessons they have learnt from Chloe and Camilla. A big thank you to all the families, staff and students who walked with these girls along their journey, supporting and helping them along the way. We wish both Chloe and Camilla well for the future, God bless you both.
