Over the past month, the Pacific community has been involved in raising and collecting funds for the Salvation Army and donating non-perishable items. The community’s generosity was clearly evident in the number of items that have been donated and the willingness of 180 Middle and Senior College students to volunteer their time to collect as part of the Red Shield Door Knock Appeal last Sunday. The students collected over $5900 and raised over $2000 through the casual day here at College. Throughout this week we have received emails from the broader community complimenting our students on their presentation and courtesy as they undertook the door knock. As the Salvation Army representatives accepted these funds and filled their truck with donated items, they expressed deep appreciation for the contribution made by College families, staff and students. We thank students, parents and staff for their generosity and Mrs Leanne Bevis and the pastoral leaders for the leadership of this important community activity.

Small acts of generosity can bring a great deal of light into the lives of others and also brings light into our own hearts. It helps bring perspective and grow a grateful heart for what we have. Remembering to see the glass half full gives us a better way of seeing each moment and each other. God is generous in His love for us and encourages us to do the same. It is heartening to be part of a community that responds to this call so strongly.
