Last Friday evening, a Student Showcase Concert was held at the College. The evening commenced with Mr Ed Bettega’s awesome Guitar Ensemble. They played the theme from Harry Potter, The Hanging Tree from Mockingjay and In The Nick Of Time by the late Sam Saunders.

The Percussion Ensemble then dazzled everyone with a riveting and rhythmic performance of Salsa Para La Morena and The Jungle, which contrasted with the beautiful and exquisite sound of the Pacific Junior Voices who performed Our Song of Peace (Hebrew folk song arrangement) and Cornish Wassail.

The polished and well-practiced Junior String Ensemble played Sleeping Panda and Acrobats by Stephen Chin and also Circus Tricks for Strings by Loreta Fin. The Pacific Senior Voices sung with confidence and splendid accomplishment in their rendition of Leavitt’s Kyrie, Rutter’s For the Beauty of the Earth and Lullaby of Broadway from the musical 42nd Street.

The sonorous Brass Ensemble played the calm and placid Sakura with skill and professionalism, highly contrasting with their last piece, the boisterous Star Wars theme. The sizzling Senior String Ensemble presented Snapdragons by Keith Sharp followed by Clocks by Coldplay arranged by Robert Longfield.

The Senior Concert Band then played with style and brilliant panache, The Kookaburra Patrol, A Pirates Tale and Phantom of the Opera. The Senior Orchestra revelled with dexterity in playing Waltzing Matilda, Colours of the Wind and the ever-popular Star Wars theme. Last but not least, the Jazz Ensemble finished the evening with exuberant flamboyance in their presentation of Tequila and Woodchopper’s Ball.

Without question, students in all ensembles performed with excellence and enjoyment to a very appreciative ‘full house’ audience.

A special thank you to all the tutors who prepared, directed and conducted the ensembles including Mrs Aleisha Tuaine, Miss Anita Morton, Miss Karlee Hutchinson, Mr Ed Bettega, Mr Basil Barletta, Mr Nelson Oakley, Mrs Helen Williams and Mr Adrian King. This Showcase Concert was the conclusion of much hard work and preparation by the tutors and students throughout 2016.
