On Saturday, the school hosted its first Speech & Drama Performance Day for students participating in the ASCA (Australian Speech Communication Association) practical exams. We had 17 performers plus a few students leading the Acknowledgement of Country, taking official photos and getting involved in spontaneous improvisations.

The main difference between these exams and ones we've done in previous years is that these were all performed in front of a live audience of parents, friends and students. And boy did these young people know how to play to an audience! The atmosphere was more like a comedy festival than an exam. Our visiting examiner, Mrs Pamela Cassidy, was absolutely blown away by the originality and creativity of the performers. She emailed afterwards to say that she'd had such a good time that she still couldn't stop laughing.

It was wonderful to see students in their element and able to perform pieces that captured their personalities and acting style. The support that they received from each other and from our amazing audience just made my heart sing. I am so proud to teach this beautiful bunch of students and I can't wait to do it all again next year.

This Friday we wish our next round of students good luck as they perform their AMEB practical exams. The ACM Practical exams will be on 15 November and the AMEB theory exams in late November. Speech & Drama students in Years 10-12 will rack up an impressive total of 15 QCE points this year from the ASCA and AMEB drama exams that they've undertaken.
