A big thank you to all students who represented Pacific at the Independent District Swimming Carnival on Monday night. The College appreciates the time commitment involved with participation in this twilight carnival and we are proud of the commitment of our swimmers. Congratulations to Emily Lengenberg and Ainslie Carter who both came second in their respective age champion categories. We also congratulate Gemma Bryce and Harlen Smith for finishing in 3rd place in their respective age champion categories. A great effort from these students.

Competitive Sport News

We encourage students to consider participating in PLC Representative Sport options available this year. These are separate activities to Competitive Sport Options as they are either short tournaments or one-off carnivals.  Please note that some representative options such as CBSQ Basketball, Senior Schools Cup Volleyball, Vicki Wilson Netball and Sunshine Coast Secondary Indoor Netball are not included in this list as students will be invited from inside current competitive sport groups.

Representative Options in Term 2

  • Trish Buckley Volleyball (Yr 7-9 Boys and Girls)

Next week students will be able to sign up for a range of competitive and representative sporting options for Term 2. Students are encouraged to look at all options and consider how they may be able to represent Pacific in sport this year. Multiple sports may be played in a term if there are no clashes with the days in which fixtures are played.

Competitive Sport Options in Term:

  • Yr 7-10 SCISSA Volleyball (Wednesday after school)
  • Yr 11-12 SCISSA Soccer (Wednesday after school)
  • Yr 7-12 Boys 15 aside Rugby (Wednesday after school)
  • Yr 7-12 Kayaking (Friday Sport and Monday after school)

SCISSA Junior and Intermediate Soccer

Our Intermediate Boys played a great game and were in the match for a long way only going down 3-1. Our Intermediate Girls team played with great skill and determination and came away with a draw 1-1. Tana Ajax was brilliant in goals, stopping several goals. Our win of the week was the Junior Boys Team 1 who played some great football and were rewarded with a fantastic 5 to nil result.

SCISSA Senior Volleyball

Once again, we had our Senior Volleyball teams travelling all over the coast for their fixtures on Wednesday night. A big thank you to the players and coaches who are committing their time and energy to represent Pacific in competitive sport. Our Senior Boys Team 2 and Senior Girls Team 2 both came away with wins. A great effort by all players across these teams. The Senior Boys Team 1 and Girls Team 1 played their first home fixtures of the season against Immanuel Lutheran College. Both games were incredibly close with the girls going down 33-31 in the first set. There will be no Trish Buckley games this Friday night so all Senior teams will enjoy some rest before Round 5’s games next week.

Trish Buckley (Senior Volleyball)

Trish Buckley Volleyball Round 2 on Friday 23rd February (Week5) saw our teams play well as a team which bought more competition to the games. The Year 12 Girls got a good first win against St Andrews and went down in a tight match against Burnside SHS. It was very similar result with our Year 11 Girls who vastly improved their performance from last week. Our Year 12 Boys team competed with strength and determination against a polished Noosa SHS. We congratulate all teams on the huge amount of effort displayed this week.

Monday Night Netball

Monday Night Netball competition continued with some close games results. PLC Garnet, Emerald, Ruby, and Jade continued their winning streak, while Amber, Crystal, Topaz, and Pearl came up against some tougher opponents. We welcome Ashleigh Ervin to the College. Ashleigh is a current Sunshine Coast Lightening player who is coaching PLC Sapphire. Their first match was extremely fast paced, and the result could have gone either way. We wish these girls the best for their next week match ups.

Kayaking

With the PLC Kayaking Program starting in Term 2, we are looking for any interested parents with potential experience in watercraft who may be able to volunteer their time to the program. The program has greatly benefitted from the fantastic involvement from parents in previous years. If you are interested, please contact me at ljacka@pacluth.qld.edu.au
