Science Achievements – Year 6-12

The International Competition and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) Science Competition assesses students’ skills in the key scientific areas of interpreting data, applying data and higher order skills such as investigating, reasoning and problem solving. 

Each year, students across Years 3-12 who are enrolled in a Science subject at Pacific sit this competition.  

In order for a student to be awarded a certificate of High Distinction, they need to be ranked in the top 1% of their year level in the whole of Australia. This year we had two students who achieved this outstanding ranking: Liam Russell and Dempsey Hall. 

To achieve a certificate of Distinction, students are ranked in the top 11% of their year level in Australia. This year we had 13 students in the Middle and Senior College who achieved this strong ranking:

Year 6: Ella Jarick.

Year 7: Sebastian Box (top 5%), Noah Smith and Noah Winten (both top 3%).

Year 8: Jason Wulff, Zoe Clewett, Ella Ousley (top 6%) and Noah Beasley (top 4%).

Year 9: Tayla Gorham, Mack Turner and Pat Swindles.

Year 11: Reece Upton.

Year 12: Harry Stone.

In order for a student to be awarded a certificate of Credit, they need to be ranked in the top 36% of their year level in the whole of Australia. This year we had 73 students across Years 6-12 who were awarded this ranking:

Year 6: Allegra Pollack, Beyonce Mathew, Alexander Hughes (top 24%), Callum Foley (top 14%), Katie Graves, Christian Schlotterbach (top 14%) and Isabella Feckner (top 24%).

Year 7: Sophie Dahl (top 23%), Abby Shanahan (top 23%), Varsh Surapaneni (top 19%), Matthew Becker (top 19%), Charles Box (top 29%), Jasmin Groves (top 19%), Tom Chapman (top 14%), Jack Connors, Grace Garland (top 23%), Ella Hansen (top 29%), Adelaide Howard (top 14%), Samantha Hutton, Margaux Malouf (top 29%), Cooper Paul, Jacob Salvesen (top 14%) and Piper Reid.

Year 8: Harry Collishaw (top 17%), Ella Daniec, Ellie Dixon (top 24%), Luca Jones (top 20%), Lachie Buchanan (top 17%), Connor Dines (top 24%), Toby Easton (top 17%), Yasmin Richters (top 14%), Nicola Hewitt (top 28%), Ella Hockam (top 17%), Sebastian Moye and Alessandro Papallo.

Year 9: Georgia Barton, Tom French (top 27%), Jared Solti (top 27%), Ryan Price, Tyrone Brooks (top 23%), Toby Brown (top 19%), Shaylen Stone (top 23%) and Phoebe O’Sullivan (top 19%). 

Year 10: Samuel Fleming (top 23%), Joseph Higginson (top 19%), Jackson Laverick (top 15%), Charles Nightingale (top 27%), Joseph Simpson (top 27%), Vivienne Casley, Jack Gothorp, Michael Hewitt (top 13%) and Reuben Taverner (top 23%).

Year 11: Rhett Ousley (top 25%), Khy Bolt (top 25%), Ted Butler, Sandon Cunningham (top 25%), Keaton Dines (top 14%), Jessica Gartrell, Ethan Hall (top 17%), Connor Hirst, Zavian McConnell (top 21%), Angus Singleton (top 21%) and Harrison Southwell (top 14%).

Year 12: Ji Flynn, Jackson Mikolic (top 17%), Beau Blake (top 17%), Ben Pierce (top 24%), Sam Reidy (top 21%), Drew Chaplin (top 28%), Shannon Van Schooten, Samuel Wilson (top 28%), Zane Buckley (top 28%) and Olivia McCluskey.

We congratulate all of these students on their achievement. As this is an international competition, the writers have identified these skills as being vitally important for Science students in over 20 countries. So as a department, we continue to work on these skills in our students in order to develop their competencies and strengths.
