On Sunday 16th July, twelve students from Years 7 and 9 represented Pacific Lutheran College in eight teams in the Middle School Lego Sumo and High School Lego Sumo competitions.

Over 500 people attended the annual event with 168 teams in the Middle School Sumo event alone.

Our teams performed highly on the day with four teams progressing through to the finals as part of the final 8 top schools in the Middle School Sumo Competition. Unfortunately, the four PLC teams were put against one another and so two teams went forward into the semi-finals.

• Dean Gertler, Emanuel Espinosa and Lucas Morse won a silver in the Middle school division which was an amazing achievement.

• Chase Bowden reached the final 4 teams.

• Declan Bancks and Jake Dunstan reached the final 8 in the MS Lego sumo.

• Matthew Martin, Deion Mathew and Elijah Rule were in the final 8 top teams.

It was great to see the collaboration happening on the day with teams helping one another as problems arose. Teams successfully completed their matches, despite crowded conditions and confusion in the pits due to several changes to the draw, resulting in a final ‘Sudden Death’ Challenge to determine the top 8 teams.

All teams are now focused on improvements and modifications for the next competition!

Congratulations to all teams who took part. Your sportsmanship, collaboration, consideration of others and your resilience on the day made us proud to be part of the Pacific Lutheran Team.
