This week at the Middle / Senior College Assembly, a representative from the Salvation Army spoke to students about the upcoming Red Shield Appeal. Children and Families Minister Worker, Cathy, explained that many more Australians are experiencing hardship due to the increased cost of living. The Sunshine Coast is an area where housing and rent in particular is very expensive and as a result, more homeless people are coming into the Caloundra Salvation Army Centre to seek help.

As well as offering practical assistance to distressed members of the Sunshine Coast community, the Salvation Army also provides an opportunity for lonely people to connect with others and increase their engagement with society.

On Sunday 28th May, we will be supporting the Red Shield Appeal. Students from Year 6-12 are welcome to volunteer their time for this worthy cause. This year we will be based here at the College, in front of the Middle / Senior College Office (L Block) as we have become too big for Moondara Park in Wurtulla. We are looking for teams of four students and one parent driver. In the past, we have had an excellent response from our community and we hope to continue this in 2017.

During the month of May, all classes and Pastoral Care Groups will be collecting non-perishable foods and personal items for the Salvation Army. We will also hold a Casual Clothes Day with a $2 donation required by students.

People on the fringe of our community need care that treats them with dignity and compassion. The Salvation Army can provide this and 28th May is our chance to help them.
