Early next week families will receive a mailed copy of this year’s Compass Review which outlines the broader philosophical direction of the College, captures some of the highlights of the first half of the year and shares some inspiring stories from past students.  Education, like other areas of life, needs to adapt to changing contexts.  I would encourage families to read the Compass Newsletter to gain a deeper understanding of the learning culture of our community and the ways in which we are enabling young people to flourish in a rapidly changing world.  Deep engagement enables families to optimise the partnership we have in supporting their children’s learning.

In Term 4 of this year we will be engaging in a strategic planning process for the next four years.  One of the ways that families will have the opportunity to contribute to future developments is to complete the electronic survey via the link that will be emailed early next week.  Families will be able to give feedback on each of their children’s learning journey and identify areas of strength and future development.  I would encourage all families to have their say about these future developments.  To assist families, a letter from me is enclosed with the Compass Review that outlines some of the aspects of our current strategic direction.

As part of this future direction the College Council is considering the addition of trousers for girls to provide more flexibility and to be in line with modern professional wear for women.  Families are invited to provide feedback about this proposal via the online survey.

We congratulate Karla Lowe who represented Queensland in the U18 team at the Pan Pacific Water Polo Festival in Auckland last week.  It is exciting to see Karla achieve one of her goals of playing in an international competition after many years of training and to be part of a bronze winning team.

There is a great vibe around preparations for the OCEANfest and I would encourage all families to play their part in supporting our festival team as detailed later in the newsletter.  It is looking to be a great evening of fun, great food, connection and entertainment.

Thank you to the many families and teachers who took advantage of the staff, student and teacher conferences this week.  They are important learning opportunities where steps for building on current experience can be identified and supported.

Congratulations to all Middle and Senior College students for the tremendous spirit and energy demonstrated at the Year 7 -12 Athletics Carnival on Monday. High levels of participation and people doing their best made everyone a winner on the day.  Well done to all students and staff and thank you to Mr Kersnovske and his team for their leadership and organisation.

May God grant us the humility and wisdom to grow relationships and connection through the good and the messy times in life.
