The Student Showcase Concert on Friday night highlighted the growth and level of talent in our ensemble groups. Each of the groups played high quality entertaining music that at times moved our hearts and at others, had us tapping our toes. It was a wonderful celebration of musical talent with the Music Centre filled to capacity with parents and friends who came to appreciate the musicality of the young people. Well done and congratulations to all the students who were involved, their instrumental teachers and Mrs Aleisha Tuaine, Mr Adrian King, Mrs Helen Williams and Miss Anita Morton. Thank you to our parents for attending the evening and also for their support of their children’s musical growth over many years.

Also on Friday night, many students were involved in the final week of our 3-on-3 Basketball Competition. Students had a lot of fun, displayed very high levels of sportsmanship and rose to the challenge of ‘giving their best’ as they further developed skills and also connected with other students. We thank Mr Mark Hauser and Mr Scott Crompton for their leadership of this unique learning opportunity.

We look forward to the performance of the Year 4-7 musical production of Mulan this Saturday at the Lifepointe Baptist Centre. Our young people are excited and well prepared after many weeks of rehearsal. We wish Director Mrs Laura Bonner, Musical Director Miss Anita Morton and the cast and crew all the best for their performances on Saturday.

Our First Lego League Teams will be competing in robotics competitions over this weekend. Students have a chance to win a place to represent Queensland and if successful at a national level, to go on and represent Australia. While there is this opportunity, students gain most from the fun and challenge of working together amongst a buzz of like-minded young people. We wish our teams led by Mr Andrew Block and Mrs Toni Fisher all the best this weekend.

Students new to the Middle College enjoyed the opportunity to be part of the Orientation Day on Monday. Parents also valued the opportunity to connect on Monday night and learn more about the principles underpinning the rich learning culture of our Middle College. We thank Mrs Rae Hall, Mr Brendan Delaney and Mrs Leanne Bevis for their overall organisation of the day and to all staff and students for making the day a warm, worthwhile and welcoming one for our new Middle College students.

We wish our Year 12 students all the best as they complete their final assessments. From Tuesday next week, students will engage in a variety of activities including presentations about personal safety and financial matters from outside community members before enjoying a variety of farewell celebrations.

We pray for all those who grieve and suffer. We pray for peace and wisdom and insight for our world leaders. We pray for the varying needs of our Year 12 students as they finish their time with us. We pray a prayer of thanks for all those who have made sacrifices so that we might live in peace and thrive.
