OCEANfest ‘One World’ provided a great opportunity for us to relax and have fun together with people within and beyond our community. It was an amazing evening filled with smiles, laughter and connection. We thank everyone for their support. We particularly thank our sponsors IBN Private, Ocean Orthodontics, Plaza Central Medical & Aesthetics, Moffat Beach Brewing Co. and Chilli, and those who donated products and gave of their time. We congratulate Mrs Samantha Barrass for her overall co-ordination, Mrs Simone Shaw, Mrs Crystal Ceccarelli, Friends of Pacific Chair, Mrs Carlie Lovell and the team of stall leaders, staff and parents who led and assisted in the preparation and running of the evening.  We thank our students who performed for us, ran the Chill Out zone and cared for the environment through their enthusiastic collection of containers. It was a great evening of connection, and we thank you for the part that you played.

On Sunday, a group of our Year 7 Pacific Plus students joined the St Marks congregation and conducted a cake stall as part of their community project to support people within the Caloundra community affected by domestic violence. They have joined with the St Marks congregation in this project and have appreciated the donation of children’s clothes and toys from our Prep – Year 5 families and now will use the $700 raised through the cake stall to purchase sanitary and hygiene items to add to their bundles. This project is part of the Community Problem Solving Competition (CmPS) conducted as part of the Future Problem Solving International Program. In the Community Problem Solving Competition, students identify and initiate solutions to local, national or global problems and grow capacity to make a difference. They develop leadership skills and through their submission of their written report can be invited to the International Conference to share their learnings. We congratulate and thank the team for their care and thank Mrs Linda Sydes for her leadership. This is a great example of where care and connection between different individuals and organisations can make a significant difference.

Our Year 4, 5, and 6 netball teams performed very well at the Lightning Cup Netball which attracted 76 teams to the competition at Fishermans Road.  The PLC Jewel team won their pool and came 3rd overall in the Championship Division which is a great achievement. We congratulate both the PLC Jewels and the PLC Gems for their sportsmanship and skills shown throughout the day. We thank Mrs Michelle Dufty and Mrs Karen Costa for their coaching of the girls and the parents who supported both teams.

Monday morning our Prep to Year 5 students enjoyed the opportunity to dress as their favourite book character and participate in a parade in front of their parents and peers as part of Book Week. Staff also made the most of the opportunity to dress up as a character from Where’s Wally.  We thank our library staff for continuing to share the joy of books and literature with our children and parents for their support.

Our Year 6 students have been enjoying their time in Canberra and we look forward to welcoming them back at the end of this week.  We thank Ms Leigh Finter, Mr Scott Crompton, Mrs Mel Percival, Ms Sophia Rule, Mr Stuart Pohlner, Mrs Kim Keirnan, Mrs Sigrid Davis, Mr Brendan Macaulay, Ms Georgie Snelling, Mr Rob Belchamber, Mrs Mel Ousley and Mrs Karen Vorster for leading and supporting our students through this program. We also thank our Head of Outdoor Education, Mr Paul Brace who has continued to oversee the overall organisation and planning and support of staff in their leadership of the program while he has been on leave.

Every day we have the opportunity to send a pulse of kindness and care to lift our neighbours.  We pray that God would give us the eyes, ears, hearts, hands and wisdom to make a difference.
