Our Middle College Orientation Day was energising.  The joy of young people welcoming and being welcomed and experiencing new things together created a wonderful vibe throughout the day.  The information, activities and learning experiences offered by staff provided an insight into the quality and breadth of opportunity and experiences that await in the Middle College.  It was also great to be able to welcome parents new to the Middle College into community through the orientation evening on Tuesday night.  We thank our Heads of Middle College, Mr Brett Kersnovske and Mrs Jo Belchamber the Heads of House, Ms Megan Bancks, Mrs Leah Croke, Mr Josh Danzey and Mr Josh Cummins and Office Manager, Mrs Leanne Bevis for their leadership and organisation.  Thank you to our teachers for their creative and engaging planning for the day, and the many staff and students who played their part well in making the day such a success.  We also thank our families and students new to the Middle College for their very positive engagement with the day.

We wish our two Future Problem Solving teams of Emily Studiman, Oliver Friend, Isla Lendrum, Amy Richards Jax Bautista, Hunter Fullard, Aidan Kemp, Nathan Russell and Declan Bancks all the best as they travel to Melbourne to compete in the 2022 Future Problem Solving National Competition on the weekend.  We thank Mrs Belchamber and Mrs Linda Sydes for their leadership of these two teams.

We congratulate all of our debaters on a strong season as part of the Sunshine Coast schools Debating Competition.  Lucy Diamond, Ben McCormack, Amedy Buchanan and Abigail Tracey presented a strong case in their semi-final debate where they presented the affirmative side of “That governments should restrict free speech”.  Despite preparing a strong model for their case they were not able to win a high-quality debate on the evening.  We thank all our debaters and Mrs Rae Hall and Mrs Ceilidh King for their leadership of our debating teams this year.

We congratulate Senior College student Jessica Lloyd who represented Queensland and won a bronze medal in the Open Teams Competition and a Silver medal in the U 18 Women’s Division of the Archery Australia National Championship, held in Brisbane last weekend.  Jessica also won a Gold Medal in the 2022 U18 Women’s Indoor National Archery Competition.  We wish Jessica all the best as she now trains to be selected as part of the Australian team to compete in the Youth titles in Ireland next year.

We congratulate our kayakers for their good performance at the Marathon Canoeing Championships at Lake Coomera over the weekend.  Congratulations to all students and particularly medal winners Sophie Mack (Gold, 12 Years TK1 5KM), Abby Novosel (Gold, 14 Years TK1 5KM) Mya Boyall (Gold, 16 Years C1), Luka Stylianou (Silver, 14 Years K1 5KM), Catalina Stylianou (Silver, 16 Years K1 10KM) and Elke Madlener (Bronze, 16 Years K1 10KM).  We thank Mr Gary Graves for his leadership of the program and Jack Gothorp and Kristen Stylianou for their support on the day.  We wish our kayakers all the best as they prepare for the upcoming Sprint Titles at Lake Kawana.

May God give us joy as we serve together in ways seen and unseen.  May He also grant us the insight to see the many ways that God’s love flows to us through the love and generous service of people within our families, friends and community.
