Congratulations to our Music students who took part in the Sunshine Coast Junior Eisteddfod. The Eisteddfod provides a great opportunity for young people to experience the joy of performance to a broader audience. Well done to the over 100 Pacific students who took part and a special congratulations to the ensemble groups and many individuals who were placed or highly commended. Special mention to our Junior String Ensemble who were placed second and our Senior Chamber Strings and Senior String Ensembles who were highly commended. We congratulate and thank our instrumental teachers, conductors, accompanists, Head of Instrumental Music Mrs Helen Williams, Head of Music Mrs Carlie Purkis and teacher Mr Paul Cusick for inspiring a love of music and the growth of talent in our young people.
At Pacific, we value the opportunity to engage in learning while immersed in our natural environments. Year 2 students had the exciting opportunity to participate in their first Outdoor Learning experience last week, with a day trip to Chambers Island. In groups, students rotated through a variety of activities learning about the natural environment. Investigations included tree exploration and shelter building, experiencing an ocean life presentation where the students were able to see and touch living sea animals, and a scavenger hunt. The students finished the day with time to reflect, drawing and describing in their journals what they saw, heard and how they felt to remember their first outdoor experience. Through engagement with nature, Year 2 students were able to learn more about themselves and develop skills to work with others and their environment.
We wish our Year 12 students all the best as they now move into their final 100 days of schooling. Many have completed their final internal assessment and are now focused on preparation for external exams. For some, the coming days will also involve finalising their work in Diplomas, certificate level courses, and traineeships.
After over twenty years of great service to Pacific Lutheran College our Business Manager, Mr Mike Healy will be retiring from the position at the end of the year. Mr Healy has been very generous with his time and filled multiple roles while fulfilling the important leadership role of leading the College’s finances very professionally and extremely well. Mike has been someone we have been able to rely upon to do what has been needed, no matter how small or challenging, including unblocking drains in the early days, guiding parents and students in the car park through to project management and 10-year financial projections. Mike has been one of Pacific’s great treasures. We look forward to celebrating Mr Healy’s very significant contribution at the end of the year. We will be advertising for the position of Business Manager this week.
We wish all those competing as part of the Pacific Run Club in the Sunshine Coast Marathon this weekend all the best.
We pray that we might grow in our relationship with God and in our appreciation of the many treasures that fill our lives.
