Staff, students and parents warmly welcomed our grandparents to the college for Grandparents Day last Friday. Everyone enjoyed a thought filled chapel presented by Class 2D and Pastor Ray Morris. Children and grandparents delighted in creating memories together in the classroom activities that followed. After a sumptuous morning tea, grandparents were entertained by music, drama and dance performances, which showcased our young people’s diversity of talent. We thank Mr David Druery for his overall organisation, Class 2D, Mrs Julie Darr and Pastor Ray Morris for a meaningful chapel, the Hospitality students and staff for an exceptional morning tea, our Music and Instrumental staff and students for highly entertaining performances, our grounds and support staff for their preparation, and parents, teachers and students for the role they played in warmly engaging our grandparents in a wonderful day.

Following Grandparents Day, many families then returned to the college in the evening to enjoy the Student Art Exhibition, which showcased creative pieces from students across Kindergarten to Year 12. A number of pieces had been inspired through students having the opportunity to work with visiting artists as well as our very talented senior art teachers. Accompanied by music presented by Tim Lofthouse, it was a relaxing evening where the richness and diversity of talent sparked our minds to flow in different directions as we meandered around the display. Thank you to Mrs Denise McMahon, Mrs Kym Rodgers and Mrs Rowena Marshall for inspiring and growing artistic talent in our students and the staging of the exhibition. Thank you to Tim Lofthouse for the warm entertainment provided through his singing. Well done to all students for the wonderful work on display and thank you to our parents, staff and students who came along to make the evening such a success.

The Junior A Girls, Junior B Boys, Senior B Girls and Senior D Boys basketball teams also competed in grand finals on Friday afternoon and evening. All teams played with good spirit and skill and represented themselves and the college well. Congratulations to all teams and special congratulations to the Senior D Boys and Senior B Girls teams who won their final matches. Thank you to Mr Mark Hauser for his energetic leadership of basketball and to coaches Mr Scott Crompton, Mrs Michi Hauser, Mrs Tanya Graves, Mrs Leah Croke, Mr Damien Evans, Mr Nico Prinsloo, Mr Brayden Morr, Justin Sayson and all students and parents who have given great support throughout the season.

Our kayaking team also performed very well at the State Sprint Championships on Sunday. A significant number of the 48-member team won medals and we are awaiting official notification of the final result for the day. Well done to all team members and parents who give great support to our kayaking team. Thank you to Mr Gary Graves for his inspirational leadership of the kayaking program and to the good support provided by Ms Rae Hall and Mrs Colleen Beattie.

As we celebrate World Teacher’s Day, we celebrate the opportunity to learn and grow through God’s blessings and grace.
