As staff, students and parents, we were naturally disappointed to not be able to continue with the Year 9 Expedition planned for this fortnight. We keep this disappointment in perspective when compared to significant losses and challenges experienced by others through this time. We are currently working through different alternatives and will keep our Year 9 families informed. Planning for trips such as this are complex and changes do require considerable time and careful consideration to ensure the safety of all concerned.

Next week we begin construction of the expansion of the library to include a senior learning space, a Prep – Year 5 STEM innovation hub, an incubation centre, outdoor garden learning area and a Prep – Year 12 learning enrichment centre. We will also be constructing a Year 6-12 STEM area between our existing science labs. This construction is expected to be completed ready for the start of next year and will mean that the library space will be unavailable for Term 4. Borrowing of books will still occur through the front foyer and we appreciate the flexibility of our library staff through this time.

We congratulate our musicians who enjoyed being part of unique performance opportunities over the past fortnight. Our Junior Strings students grew through working with Mr Mark Sullivan, a highly accomplished and renowned string expert. The Jazz Ensemble entertained the community at Double Bay Park as part of an event organised by the Kawana Island Residents Association. Our senior music students also had their performance evening on Wednesday where they showcased the pieces they’ve been working on this term. We thank our music staff of Mrs Helen Williams, Mrs Aleisha Tuaine and Mr Steven Lake for organising these opportunities for our musicians.

This week we farewelled Ikumi Shinotsuka and Koki Higuchi, our two exchange students from Seishin Gakuen who have been with us throughout Term 3. We thank them for their warmth and graciousness in engaging with our community, host families the Ousley’s, Buchannan’s and Swindles’ and Mrs Michiko Hauser for her organisation of this inbound experience. We wish our outbound exchange students Alex Jose and Holly Ubrihien all the best as they travel to Japan for their Term 4 experience.

In a weekend of netball finals, we wish the PLC Fillies all the best for their game this weekend.

We say a prayer of thanks to God for the volunteers in our community who keep us safe and enrich us by their generosity of heart.
