This week on assembly we welcomed 2018 graduate Kaylee McKeown home, as we celebrated her achievements. In recognition of Olympic Day this Sunday and Kaylee’s achievements at last year’s Youth Olympics, Kaylee was presented with an Olympic Flag, which she in turn presented to the College. Kaylee returned from the Youth Olympics as the top Australian medallist having won one gold, two silvers and a bronze medal! Both Kaylee and past Olympian Tessa Wallace were present at our assembly and provided inspiring reflections as we recognised their achievements. The themes of grit, persistence, determination and having faith in your abilities were key themes of the morning. As a community we are very proud of Kaylee’s achievement and her humility and grace. We wish her well for the upcoming World Championships. We thank Kaylee’s parents Sharon and Sholto, Australian Olympic Committee representative Ms Lisa Zoomers, local member Mr Jarrod Bleijie, Tessa Wallace and Kaylee for joining us and making it one of the special moments in our College’s life.

Well done to the many students, parents and staff who participated in the Caloundra Foreshore Fun Run last weekend. This is one of the events our running club members participate in throughout the year. We thank Mr Stuart Pohlner for his leadership of this group and wish our running club members all the best for the rest of the season.

Well done to our open boys volleyball team who had their grand final against Good Shepherd Lutheran College last night. The boys played with great energy and commitment against a strong opposing side who won the match. We congratulate the team on their season and thank their coach Ms Leigh Finter.

As we finish the term, Middle and Senior college parents and students are reminded that normal learning continues throughout the whole of next week. This is particularly important for senior students who will be covering new material that will not be revisited next term. As assessments are returned, it is important that we reflect on what we have learnt and what our next step is in lifting our understanding and performance to the next level. Reflecting at home and making a written commitment, which is displayed in a prominent place in a study space, can help to grow the intellectual resilience and persistence that is required for optimal growth.

May God give us the grace to be welcoming people of warmth, where many people feel at home in our presence.

Dr Bronwyn Dolling, Principal
