One of the highlights of the year is to be part of the Celebrating Dad’s Day breakfast.  Over 500 people attended last Friday morning with Dads enjoying the opportunity to connect with their children and each other while appreciating great food served by our hospitality students and being entertained by our musicians.  We thank our Dads and families for their support.  Special appreciation is extended to our hospitality students and staff led by Mrs. Beattie and musicians led by Mr. Adrian King and Mrs. Aleisha Tuaine for sharing their talents in making this such a high-quality relaxing experience for people to enjoy.

We also congratulate Mikaela Swan and Zoe Stockwell whose work was selected to be part of the Creative Generation Awards for Visual Art for the Sunshine Coast District.  This exhibition is part of a statewide art awards program where works are selected from each region to be on display at GOMA.  The works from over 30 schools showcased the diversity of creative talent in young people from across the coast.  It was a delight to see Mikaela be one of two students to be awarded a Highly Commended with three further student pieces being selected for exhibition in Brisbane.

Congratulations is also extended to our Year 7/8 QAMT Mathematics team of Noah Winten, Callum Folley and Liam Russell who at the end of the normal rounds of the regional competition were tied in second place with Matthew Flinders.  They finished the competition placing third and missed the opportunity to go on to the state level competition after the tie breaker in which their estimate of the number of triangles drawn in a diagram was less accurate than the Flinders team.  Well done to the boys and thank you to Mr Andrew Block for his leadership of the team.

Year 4 - 9 students also enjoyed the opportunity to be part of the Sunshine Coast Japanese speaking competition at the University of the Sunshine Coast.  We congratulate all students who participated and celebrate with Phoebe Shearer who placed 1st in the Year 4 division, Abigail Christie who placed 3rd for the Year 5 division and Jackson Bailey who was placed 1st in Year 6.  We thank teachers Mrs Jo Bailey, Mrs Mel Pietrala and Mrs Virginia Schlotterbach for their leadership of this event.

It was enjoyable to watch the PLC Thoroughbred team play in their netball semifinal on Saturday.  In a closely fought match that was won in the dying seconds of the game, the girls showed great skill and tenacity.  They and their coach Mrs. Michelle Dufty can be very proud of their performance and the growth they have shown over the season.  We wish the U11 PLC Palaminos netball team all the best for their grand final in two weeks’ time and the U11 Seals football team all the best for their final this weekend. The Seals team will appreciate community support at the Buderim United FC, Fisherman's Road, Buderim at 8.30am on Saturday.

I am pleased to announce that Mrs Helen Williams will be our Head of Instrumental Music from the start of Term 4.  Mrs Williams has a great passion for young people and music and has had extensive experience in the leadership of music, having experience in the United Kingdom as well as here on the Sunshine Coast in a variety of school and community settings.  Mr Adrian King will continue to support different groups here at the College next year. We look forward to Mrs. Williams leading the ongoing success of the instrumental program.

We thank God for the opportunity to come together as a community and benefit from each other’s gifts.
