Thank you to our staff, students and parents who gave up their time on Sunday to welcome new families into our community during our Open Day. There were high levels of engagement as students lead tours, performed, led learning experiences in classroom spaces and provided tasty food through the hospitality area. The Friends of Pacific also provided a warm point of welcome through their barbecue.  Students and teachers enjoyed the opportunity to share our rich culture of learning as they shared experiences, engaged in conversation and responded to the many questions of our visiting families. I thank our staff, students and parents for giving so generously of themselves and their time to make it such a successful day full of rich interactions. Thank you and very well done to everyone.

We celebrate our Da Vinci Decathlon teams who all performed very well at last week’s Queensland Regional competition. All teams placed in the top 3 for different aspects of the competition throughout the day.  We particularly celebrate our Year 5 and 7 teams who were the winners for their whole competition and the Year 9 team who came second, narrowly missing out on first place by one point, and our Year 10 team who came third overall.  We congratulate all students and thank our teachers Mrs Jo Belchamber, Mrs Linda Sydes, Mr Andrew Block, Ms Adelle Byerlee and Mrs Julie Darr for their support and leadership of these students.

We are excited to launch the Pacific Learning Hub which will provide opportunities for students, staff and parents to connect with external learning opportunities including speakers. Dr Justin Coulson who has a focus on helping schools and communities to boost wellbeing and improve relationships will lead off the first of these events. There will be a presentation to staff about enhancing wellbeing in the afternoon and then to parents in the evening with a focus on building resilience in children. Dr Coulson is a sought-after keynote speaker who has written many books and been the co-host and parenting expert on Channel 9’s “Parental Guidance”. We look forward to sharing this opportunity with you on Tuesday 23rd May.

We congratulate our cross country and futsal teams who represented the College recently. A particular mention to our U16 girls who reached the grand final of the futsal competition. Thank you to Mrs Kim Kiernan and Mr Scott Massie who have supported the Cross-Country team including our run club throughout Term 1 and to Mr Hooper, Mr Cameron West McInnes and Mrs Lisa Muir for their leadership and organisation of the Cross-Country teams. Thank you to Ms Rebekah Horsey and Mr Tony Davies for their support and leadership of our futsal teams.

We look forward to welcoming back our Year 4 students and staff from their 3-day outdoor education experience tomorrow. We thank Mr Paul Brace, Head of Outdoor Education, Mrs Sarah Atkinson, Mrs Amanda Empson, Mr Joe Doran, Miss Georgie Snelling, Mr Rob Belchamber and College Nurse Mrs Sharon Middleton.

We wish Director Mrs Janine Delaney and our PIPPIN cast and crew all the best as they complete their final preparations for their performances on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th May.

We give a prayer of thanks to God for our mums and pray that God would be with them and fill them with joy.

Dr Bronwyn Dolling, Principal
