As a sign of respect over 300 Pacific students participated in the Caloundra RSL ANZAC Day March on Tuesday. RSL President, Heather Christie expressed her appreciation for our student’s attendance and to our Marching Band for their leadership of the school’s section of the March. Students were also part of other groups including Blake Dines and Brad Maloney who were part of the catafalque party. We thank President Heather Christie and veteran Major Duncan Buchanan for leading our reflections and remembrances at the College. We thank our students for the respect shown through their attendance and reflection.  We appreciate the time and talent of our musicians who added considerably to both the March and our Middle and Senior College service. We thank Chaplain Mrs Holly Gricks for her leadership of the College services and our parents for their support.

Our rugby teams played with good spirit and skill to perform well over the weekend as part of the Armidale School Rugby Carnival. The students enjoyed the opportunity to experience the life of a boarder as well as test their rugby skills against teams from across New South Wales and Queensland. We thank Ms Leigh Finter and coaches Mr Darren Hooper, Mr Josh Cummins and Mr Scott Crompton for their leadership and our parents for their support of the team.

Staff and students are beginning preparations for our Open Day on Sunday 7th May from 12.30pm to 3.30 pm. Students enjoy the opportunity to showcase the College through their leadership of tours and participation in performances and activities. The day provides a relaxed opportunity for parents to learn more about the next phase of learning at the College, to enjoy performance, the fare of our hospitality students and to welcome new families into our community. Parents are encouraged to assist the Friends of Pacific in the running of the BBQ as outlined in their article later in the newsletter and to invite community members who might be considering Pacific for their children’s education.

The PIPPIN cast and crew are honing their performances and look forward to sharing their talent on May 19th and 20th. We look forward to what promises to be a thoroughly entertaining production.  Tickets are selling quickly and can be purchased through the Caloundra Events Centre. We wish Director, Mrs Janine Delaney and her cast and crew all the best as they engage in their final rehearsals.

The wearing of the Formal Winter Uniform will commence on Monday 8th of May. Families are encouraged to ensure that they have purchased all elements of the winter uniform. Details of this can be found in the Uniform Guide. This includes having sufficient jumpers. Students are not permitted to wear their sports jacket with their Formal College Uniform. At this time, Middle and Senior College students will also revert to changing into and out of their sports uniform for physical education lessons and sport during the day.

We say a prayer of thanks for the service of our defence personnel and their families and pray that God would provide for their needs. We pray for peace around the world and for all those affected by conflict. We pray that we have the courage to grow through challenges and failure and to meet the needs of our neighbour.
