This week on assembly we launched the Beyond Pacific program. This innovative program aims to support young people to reflect and record their growth across the four dimensions of character, community, leadership and future focus. Developed last year by some of our 2022 Senior Leaders and Mrs Wanda Hayes, Head of Career Development at Pacific, in collaboration with employer representatives, this program will provide evidence for students as they apply for university and employment scholarships. The College will recognise students who progress through the Bronze, Silver and Gold phases of the award but its greatest benefit will be the growth that students take with them beyond Pacific into the next phase of their lives. We are excited about this program which supports young students to grow as people and in their employability skills.  We thank Mrs Hayes, Ms Sue Arahill, Mrs Jo Belchamber, Mrs Rachel Curtis, Mrs Colleen Beattie, our 2022 student leaders Sebastian and Charles Box, Makani Campbell and Amie Hague, and employer representatives Mr Richard Studiman and Ms Veronica San Marco who have developed the program and will continue to lead it this year. As an innovative program that supports rich growth of employability skills, Beyond Pacific has already attracted interest from a national level.

At the Friends of Pacific Annual General Meeting, we thanked our outgoing Executive members who have given great service to the community through the changing times of 2022, leading and supporting a variety of events including our Mother’s and Father’s Day Stalls, Open Day, Gala Days, Carols and Pacific’s 21st Birthday Soiree. In particular, we thanked the outgoing Chair, Mrs Jenny Lee who has been very generous with her time and very capably led the Friends of Pacific since 2017.  Jenny has led with professionalism, care and creativity to bring people together and support very high-quality community experiences.  It is a credit to Jenny and her executive team that the Friends of Pacific play such an important role in providing high-quality experiences and opportunities for people to connect to community.  We thank our outgoing committee - Chairperson, Jenny Lee, Vice Chair, Allyson Sarvari, Secretary, Jane Hill, and Treasurer, Louise Walker and welcome our new FoP Committee – Chairperson Carly Lovell, Vice Chair, Jan Watman, Secretary Ange Mack, Treasurer Louise Walker, Foundation Executive – Victoria Campbell, Junior College Executive - Renae Costa, Middle College Executives - Lisa Davis and Amber Childs, Senior College Executives - Tracey Hindmarsh and Jenny Lee and Alumni Executive - Allyson Sarvari.

We thank the many Middle and Senior College students and staff who supported the Disabled Surfers over the weekend. The support of students and staff enabled people to experience the joy and wonders of surfing, some for the first time. This is a very special experience where everyone who participates gains a great deal. We thank Mrs Linda Sydes for her leadership and the many staff and students who supported this event.

Well done to all our swimmers who competed with great spirit at the recent Independent District Carnivals. There were many individual swimmers who performed extremely well, and we particularly congratulate Alex Monroe, Year 12, who broke the 18 Years 50m Breaststroke record. We wish all the swimmers who now represent the Independent District at the regional competition all the best. We thank our swimmers, their parents and Mr Darren Hooper, Mr Cameron West McInnes, Mrs Lisa Muir and staff for their support and leadership across the two days of competition.

We give thanks to God for the many people who give generously to our community.
