Conditions couldn’t have been better when more than 45 keen surfers took to the waves at the Pacific Pulse Surfing Contest on Tuesday. Blue skies and small but tricky conditions greeted the surfers aged from 8 through to 12 who competed in the contest held at Kings Beach. Five Caloundra schools participated in the event organised by Pacific Lutheran College including Our Lady of the Rosary, Buddina State School, Talara Primary College and Currimundi State School.

The Pacific Pulse surfing contest has been running for nine years and provides the opportunity for both beginners and confident surfers to compete in a friendly environment. Each student surfed two heats, competing for both their school and as individuals. At the end of the day, all surfers represented their school in a tag team competition where each team was required to surf 10 waves in 20 minutes.

At the completion of the contest, Buddina State School was named the overall champion school for the second year in a row. Our Lady of the Rosary was the champion tag team school. Well done to all Pacific surfers who represented the college on the day.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Sunshine Coast TAFE students who worked behind the scenes to make this contest the success it was. We also thank all of our sponsors for their generous contributions to the event. Also thank you to Allyson from Friends of Pacific who coordinated the barbecue and Mr Damian Davis and Mr Luke Pennisi (pre-service teacher) who help run the contest.
