Today marks the graduation day of the first cohort of students to complete the Pacific Plus journey through years 6, 7 and 8.

We have seen these students grow intellectually and socially over the years, transitioning from fresh-faced eager entrants to the accomplished students that they are today. The impacts of actively participating in the program have gone beyond what our initial conceptions of what Pacific Plus could be. These are some words from the students:

“ Pacific Plus allows students to build and create new levels of understanding. You can change the course of your learning. My most memorable moment was my second showcase about the many possible ways to have vaccinations in the future. Last year while doing our Community Problem Solving Program, I was very thankful to Miss Adelle Byerlee, who has a fantastic amount of knowledge that helps all participants to build more understanding and new learning in the chosen area of interest. I am thankful for the opportunity I have had the past three years and highly encourage students to embrace Pacific Plus.”  Amy Richards.

“Pacific Plus is fun and it challenges your thinking ….. the experience is fun and interesting. It stands out because it helps you challenge your brain and that can help you become smarter.“ Patrick Butler

“Pacific Plus is enjoyable because of the versatility and choice of what you study. My favourite part was the opportunity to go to Melbourne as part of the Community Problem Solving program.”  Jax Bautista

“ I enjoyed the three years of Pacific Plus because of all the fun memories and experiences, like my magpie project in grade 6 and all the debates and conversations. “ Flynn Weule

“I would definitely recommend Pacific Plus to any gifted students. It’s like being let loose from a leash. I love that we can research any topic that we want to. Because it makes me more motivated to do the work. The teachers are amazing, and really help shape the projects and inquiry questions.” Nathan Russell

“Pacific Plus is a great opportunity for having great conversations with other motivated learners and learn whatever you want to learn. A highlight is having conversations that end with everybody feeling intellectually satisfied.” Harper Hogg

“I enjoyed being able to connect with other students that I wouldn’t usually connect with, and being able to research and discuss interesting subjects. My highlight was unexpectedly getting into the national finals for Future Problem-Solving. “ Hunter Fullard

The students would like to thank teaching staff from across the college for their support as mentors, and for their flexibility to facilitate their involvement and for providing audiences for their many projects.

Colour Splash

On Tuesday, we celebrated Under 8’s Day at Pacific. This year’s theme was- ‘Play-You, Me and Community’. The students from P-3 took part in the Colour Splash: School Fun Run. They enjoyed completing the colourful obstacle course which included activities such as balance frisbee, mini hurdles, relay races, sprint races, sack racing and parachute games… just to name a few.

Thank you to all those students who participated in the colourful morning celebrating being ‘Under 8’. A special thanks to the P-3 staff who helped run the morning so that it was an enjoyable and colourful day for all.
