Year 6 Canberra Tour

In Week 2 of next term, Year 6 students will travel to Canberra to visit various attractions in our nation’s capital. Highlights will include visiting both houses of parliament, meeting Australia’s Governor General and being a part of the War Memorial’s Closing Ceremony on Thursday 12th October at 4.30pm. This event will be live streamed via the War Memorial’s website.

The National Capital Tour is undertaken with assistance from the Federal Government as part of their PACER (Parliament and Civics Educational Rebate) program. The rebate is paid directly to the College upon completion of the tour.

2017 New Zealand Expedition

Students, parents and staff have been training for this expedition afterschool. The group is currently in its eighth week of training with many more to come before they depart at the end of Term 4. The group walks from school to Pelican Waters every Wednesday afternoon and does various amounts of stair training every Friday afterschool. They are also involved in activities every second Saturday; the most recent was an 85-kilometre mountain bike ride from Pelican Waters to Noosaville.

This year, two versions of the expedition are being offered:

  • 23-day West Coast to East Coast (Greymouth to Kaikoura) expedition departing 29th November and returning 21st December.
  • 13-day Alps to Ocean (Hanmer Springs to Kaikoura) expedition departing 8th December and returning 21st December.

The second expedition group will join the first as they go through Hanmer Springs. Both expeditions will involve tramping, mountain bike riding and white water rafting.

Parents and students wanting information about this expedition can contact Dr Peter McMahon directly at the College on 0448 277 789. The 2015 expedition movie can be viewed at: https://youtube.com/watch?v=3ZzNzED2s0E.
