After eight weeks of participating in our Thinkers Club during Term 2, two teams of seven students across Years 3-6 have been selected to compete in our first OPTI-Minds Challenge.

These teams are undertaking complex challenges that require them to work collaboratively and independently to unpack a problem, construct a solution, write a script, create costumes and then perform in front of judges and an audience. Our Engineering team have the added complexity of creating a design product. There will also be a spontaneous challenge on the day, which cannot be scripted and relies on students’ ability to problem solve and work cohesively in the spirit of OPTI-Minds.

We think these teams are winners already, as their enthusiasm and engagement has been tremendous to witness.

This year's 2017 OPTI-Minds teams are:

Social Sciences Team (Facilitated by Mrs Kirsty Ridley):

  • Emily Creamer
  • Ella Mulhearn
  • Ruby Davis
  • Phoebe Shearer
  • Toby Creamer
  • Keeley Meade
  • Dan Whittingham

Science Engineering Team (Facilitated by Mrs Lu Pollard)

  • Kahlia Taylor
  • Isabella Lee
  • Jett Forman
  • Tamsyn Doyle
  • Olivia Boland
  • Isha Wallis
  • Alex Lee

The teams will compete on 26th August at Caloundra Christian College and we wish them all the very best. We would like to also acknowledge and thank Mrs Jo Belchambers for her knowledge and support and the parents for their commitment along this journey.

Mrs Lu Pollard, OPTI-Minds Coordinator
