This year the Year 3 cohort focused on our chicken coop as part of their Life and Living Strand in Science. Students took great pride in caring for our resident ladies and ensuring they were well fed and cleanly housed.

Following a review at the end of Term 1, we recognised that our ladies were over six years old and might appreciate a different environment for the final stage of their life cycle. So although strong and healthy, we had recorded that they were no longer laying and therefore providing us with limited opportunity to observe their life cycle in an educational setting.

With great excitement, we would like to announce that our lovely ladies were rehomed with a local family who are showing them great love and much attention. We would like to thank all those who have contributed to their health and wellbeing over the years and in particular to the grounds staff who have cared for them during school holidays, while the rest of us were busy vacationing.

With our ladies gone, the Gardening Club is looking on this as an opportunity to grow. There are three large flowerbeds in the area that could be utilised in the future. So with every ending comes a new beginning. If you have a grandparent who has a ‘green thumb’ and loves opportunities to mix with enthusiastic youngsters, we may have an opportunity coming soon.
