One of the privileges of being embedded within a busy educational context is witnessing the dedication of our staff and their application to connecting content learned in theory into a practical and real-world setting.

Recently, I had the enriching experience of attending a Year 4 Learning Excursion to Aussie World. The Year 4s used this experience to build on their knowledge of science and forces as well as integrate their understanding of design and digital technologies. On their return, they were tasked with using Lego Spike to design rides, whilst expanding their understanding of forces and durability of design.

While witnessing the planning phase, there was deep collaboration, resilience, and continual checking and rechecking for success. All students were spread somewhere in the learning pit. Their focus was sharp, and their intention was clear. This process was celebrated at our Junior Assembly this week as students shared their journey to success and spoke to the challenges that presented on the way.

This week we also celebrate study success in the area of writing. Scarlett van den Hurk placed first in the Year 5 division for a short story competition run by Mooloolaba Rotary, UniSC and Voices on the Coast.  There were around 180 entries and they shortlisted the top 20 stories and the winners were announced at the University this afternoon. The topic was…I had no Choice!  Each author had to write under that title. Scarlett has provided permission for her entry to be published for all to enjoy. Year 3 Outdoor Education

This Friday our Year Three cohort will return excited and more than likely slightly tired from their very first Outdoor Education experience, held locally at Alexandra Headlands. I can attest to the students having a fantastic time and enjoying the learning attached to the activities and reflections from their first overnight event. We thank Mr Paul Brace, our Head of Outdoor Education for his planning prior and Mr. David Druery for his leadership and delivery of such an engaging program. We also thank the many staff who attended over the two days and we are fortunate that the staff involved have given so freely of their time for the benefit of others.

Prep Information Evening

This week parents, guardians and carers of Prep students beginning their College experience gathered to hear about the journey ahead for their children and also connect as a community. Beginning the schooling journey is an exciting time of life and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Grier Elliott, Mrs Shelley Hogan, and Mrs Anna Maher for their preparation of the evening as well as the Hospitality department for their catering of the event.  We look forward to officially welcoming our Prep class of 2024 next year.

Uniform and Expectations

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all students and parents for their support of the College uniform policy. How we manage our uniform expectations shows the community about how we present and care for self. A reminder that hair on all students should be always tied back if longer than the collar and that students should not be wearing hairstyles that bring undue attention to themselves. This includes “tracks” in the side of the head as well as haircuts shorter than a number two blade. Students have been reminded about expectations regarding hair and accessories this week. All hair bands should be in line with the colours of the College. Shoes and socks must match the uniform of the day.

Take care and God Bless,

Mr Damian Davis, Head of Staff and Students P-5
