Primary Independent District Athletics Carnival

On Tuesday, Pacific Lutheran was represented by a team of over 60 students from Years 3 to 7 at the Primary Independent Athletics Carnival held at the University of the Sunshine Coast. The carnival had a unique atmosphere due to the Olympic Games currently running, the success of our past student Kaylee McKeown who won gold during the day, as well as the recent announcement of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. The level of competition was outstanding with a huge number of records broken on the day. There is a real possibility that there were students competing yesterday that could be representing Australia at the 2032 Olympics.

Whilst all Pacific students competed exceptionally well on the day, I would like to recognise some outstanding individual results from the carnival. Well done to the following students who finished in the top three places for their events on the day.

Congratulations to Gemma Bryce and Holly Targato who were both named age champion runners-up in the 9 girls and 12 girls age groups, respectively.

The 10 to 12 Years Independent District team who will be competing at the Sunshine Coast Regional Athletics Carnival, will be released in the next few days. Pacific students who have been selected in this team will be notified by the College.

Junior Basketball Program

This term we are pleased to offer a Junior Basketball Development Program for students in Years 2 to 6. The program will be run after school on Wednesday afternoons from 3:15 – 4:45pm in the school gymnasium and outdoor courts.

The basketball program will be run by Mr Lee Miles who has over a decade of coaching experience in running junior development programs here on the Sunshine Coast as well as working with our Junior SCISSA and Senior Basketball teams this year. Lee will be assisted by myself, and recent school graduates Brooklyn Graves and Phoebe Swan.

The program will commence next Wednesday 4th August and will run for five weeks, finishing on Wednesday 1st September. During these sessions, students will focus on fundamental basketball skills through drills before moving into game play.

The cost of this 5-week program is $30 which includes a basketball for each student to take home.

If you are interested in registering your child for this program, please send an expression of interest email to either dhooper@pacluth.qld.edu.au or PLCSport@pacluth.qld.edu.au. An information letter and registration details will be forwarded to you.
