Lightning Cup Netball Carnival
Last Friday our Year 4/5/6 PLC Gems and PLC Jewels Netball teams participated in the Lightning Cup Netball Carnival held at the Sunshine Coast Netball Association (Fisherman’s Rd).
64 girls teams and 12 boys teams from Gympie right down to Redcliffe competed on the day in three divisions – Championship (Girls Lightning Cup), Development (Girls Thunder Cup) and Boys Storm Cup.
Both teams showed great sportsmanship throughout the event and represented PLC well during the day.
Congratulations to our PLC Jewels team who played in the championship division. They were undefeated in all their pool games, winning all six games to progress through to the semi-finals. In a very tight game, PLC went down 9-8 to St Eugene College, Burpengary. The Jewels then played off in the 3rd vs 4th playoff against St Michael’s College, Caboolture, winning this game 12 – 8 to finish in 3rd place in the Championship Division out of 28 schools.
Thanks to Ms. Michelle Dufty and Mrs Karen Costa who coached and led our teams on the day as well as the parents who supported both teams.
Prep – 2 Inter-House Athletics Carnival
The Prep to Year 2 students will participate in a Foundation College Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 30th August. A parent information letter regarding this event was sent home this week via email to families.
There will be a range of different team and individual events on the day, including a 60m sprint, shuttle relay, long jump, high jump, plastic javelin throw, sack races and ball games.
This carnival aims to provide students with an opportunity to implement skills learnt during Physical Education lessons into practice in a fun, participation-based carnival experience. All students will receive a participation ribbon and points for their house. First, second and third ribbons will also be awarded for the 60m sprint.
Parents and spectators are welcome to attend the carnival.
