On Tuesday in the Junior College, students continued to explore Sustainability across the campus with our Junior Science Expo.

It was a wondrous day, filled with ‘mad scientists’ exploring the wonders that their teachers and parents had prepared for them. Within the classrooms, students created compost, dug for worms, explored the solar system, phases of the moon and sustainable living. They investigated light and sound and traversed different habitats questioning the liveability for different species.

Outside and under the shade of our stalls, our scientists were able to roam and choose activities that reflected the 3R’s of recycle, reduce and reuse, with every activity utilising recycled items from our community. The Toy Exchange generated much excitement as did the DYI fidget spinners, which ran hot all day. Our floral Prep stall had students potting their own seedlings, while alongside them students created musical instruments as they investigated their understanding of vibrations.

Waste Warriors raced to correctly identify and sort packaging into appropriate bins, while beautifully creative wind chimes were fashioned, using recycled items and wooden elements. The students were engaged and excited by the activities and the freedom to roam and explore.

Dr Joe presented his epic Science Show in the gym and students were bedazzled with his enthusiastic, interactive and informative demonstrations.

All this thinking, creating and exploring meant that our students were excited for their Brain Break, creatively presented by Friends of Pacific and 4 Ingredients. Students ate popcorn from recycled cones and fruit sticks while contemplating their ‘thinking’ displayed on the walls under the Year 4 building.

The day was made extra special by the amazing support and commitment of both the parent representatives and their helpers and the teaching staff and their support staff. Finally a big thank you to our ground staff, 4 Ingredients and the Friends of Pacific team, who made this day possible.
