In Week 8, Pacific held its annual Japanese Speech Contest. Across Years 3-5, students were invited to put together a self-introduction in Japanese. Students were judged on the content of their speech, fluency in pronunciation, cultural gestures and their ability to answer questions in Japanese. It was pleasing to see the enthusiasm from all of our entrants and the judges were very impressed by their confidence and fluency.

This year, Mayumi Katayama and Akito Iwase, our two inbound exchange students from Seishin, joined the Japanese Department to judge the speeches. We are very pleased to announce the following results:

 Year 3

  • 1st place: Phoebe Shearer
  • 2nd place: Annabella Hentschel
  • 3rd place: Hayley Petfield
  • Highly Commended: William Moffitt

Year 4

  • 1st place: Alexandra Schlotterbach
  • 2nd place: Toby Creamer
  • 3rd place: Amelia Holmes
  • Highly Commended: Jada Baker

Year 5

  • 1st place: Jackson Bailey
  • 2nd place: Kirrily Petfield
  • 3rd place: Sarah Timperley
  • Highly Commended: Macey Winter Oliver

We also acknowledge our other Junior College participants including Blake Dines, Jemma Linfoot, Isabella Lee, Holly Targato, Kahlia Taylor, Ruby Davis, Amelie Bradley, Madyson Pearce and Zaice McLachlan.
