Last Friday, 32 Year 11 and 12 students attended a Health Heroes Expo to learn about The Sunshine Coast University Hospital, developments at the Health and Medical precinct and exciting future career opportunities in the industry. Students’ listened to presentations from the Sunshine Coast Council (www.studysunshinecoast.com.au) and were able to speak directly with those working in various health fields. Learning institutions and training providers were also present to answer students’ questions about entry pathways.

 

Students were encouraged to consider careers in the Health and Wellbeing industry that went beyond the traditional fields of nursing and paramedics, such as:

  • Preventative and Allied Health,
  • Arts and Humanities in Health,
  • Chiropractic Medicine,
  • Dermatologists,
  • Environmental Health,
  • Mental Health,
  • Nutrition/Dietetics,
  • Occupational Therapy,
  • Medical librarian,
  • Global Health,
  • Leisure and Lifestyle Coordinators and many, many more.

Further education and training within these areas could be undertaken at University, TAFE or Private Registered Training Organisations. Secondary school education pathways may include: English, Maths, Sciences, Physical Education, Information Technology or Basic Health Care (Certificate III).
