6-11 Students and Staff Rally for Cancer Research Raising $4000 through the Cancer Council Ponytail Project

Our PLC community is renowned for its student leadership and agency in actioning meaningful change.  This week, students across P-11 came together to encourage and celebrate five students and a staff member who had 20 cm of their hair ‘chopped’ and then donated for the Cancer Council’s Ponytail Project. The participants independently raised $2000 towards the cause, with students across Years 6-11 participating in a Casual Clothes Day that raised an additional $2000.

The Cancer Council Ponytail Project is an initiative that encourages individuals to donate their hair or raise funds for cancer research and to create wigs for cancer patients who have lost their own hair.  The College has participated in this event for several years and is led by Senior College students, bringing students and staff together to make an important difference for the lives of so many impacted by cancer.

For the event itself, parents were invited to attend, and PLC musicians played to add to the atmosphere of the event.

Congratulations to Kiana, 2024 Spirituality and Service Captain and Aryisa, 2024 Cultural Captain for their leadership and organisation of the event, whilst supporting students and staff to participate in the Ponytail Project.  Their efforts serve as an inspiring example for their peers and younger students, showing how collective action can bring very important changes to the community and to those impacted by cancer.

Year 10 Students Prepare for End of Year Examinations

It is a critical period for our Year 10 students who find themselves at a transitional phase of their College journey. It also marks an important academic milestone with Year 10 students commencing their end of year block examinations and assessment from Thursday 9th November- Wednesday 15th November, Week 6 and Week 7.

Communication has been sent to Year 10 students and families about expectations of attendance, uniform and behaviour.  It is important for students to lead by example and model College expectations for their peers across the Middle and Senior College.

At Pacific we have a very strong culture of students engaging positively in their block examinations and it has been positive to see Year 10 students maintain focus on their learning and preparation for their end of year assessment.  We encourage Year 10 students striving to do their best and to enjoy the challenge and experience.

For students and families who would like more information about Year 10 examinations and assessment, please do not hesitate to contact Ms Anne-Marie Gerlach, Head of Learning Senior College at agerlach@pacluth.qld.edu.au or myself at lfinter@pacluth.qld.edu.au
