Pacific Lutheran College has several sports development programs outside of school hours. These programs encourage participation, giving students the opportunity to be part of a team, and learn basic skills of the game.

The parent-led Pacific FC Soccer and PLC Netball Clubs compete on Saturdays in community competitions throughout the Sunshine Coast.

Saturday 25th saw our teams take the court for round two of the season with some hard-fought wins for some of our teams. Once again, the weather was unseasonably warm which made it tough for all players. Thank you to all managers, coaches, players, and supporters for ensuring the day was another great success in hot conditions.

The next round of games, after the Easter school holidays, is Saturday 22nd April.  Please check with your coach or manager about training recommencing prior to the next round.

It is important for the junior athlete to eat well every day – not just on the day of the event. The foods they eat on a day-to-day basis help maximize their growth and development and prepare them for performing at their best on competition day. The junior athlete will perform better and recover quicker from training and competition when they are well-fuelled. Signs and symptoms of low energy availability include:

•          Fatigue

•          Often ill or injured

•          Not able to gain muscle or strength

•          Poor performance

•          Training hard but not improving

•          Irritability

Active children need constant refuelling and hydration.  Here are pre-exercise food ideas:

For more detailed information on fuelling active kids, visit the Sports Dietitians Australia website at www.sportsdietitians.com.au.

And don’t forget, managing fluid intake is just as important as food intake for the health and performance of junior athletes. Children can overheat and dehydrate quickly as they are not able to regulate their body temperature as well as adults … so remember to drink plenty of water regularly!

If someone is unable to attend training or the game, please contact your team coach or manager (in the first instance) or the President email as a last resort.  Please ensure your team manager and coach have your correct contact details (email and mobile phone number).
