Celebrating Service

This week at Chapel, Middle and Senior College students were invited to write down the ways they have contributed to the school, local and global community.  There was a buzz of energy as students wrote down and shared within their pastoral care groups the ways they have served others.   Members of the Cambodian team also shared with the whole group the reasons they were taking part in the Cambodian service activities later this year.

 At the Kawana Community Awards, representatives from a wide variety of groups were recognised for their service.  We were delighted that Mrs Jenny Lee and Mrs Tracey Hindmarsh were recognised for their outstanding service to the Pacific community.  The morning was hosted and presented by Jarrod Bleijie MP Member for Kawana and accompanied by Dr Christian Rowan MP (Shadow Minister for Communities, Disability Services and Seniors, ATSI Partnerships and The Arts).

Pausing to celebrate the ways in which people serve within our community, enables us to express our gratitude as well as reminds us of the strong purpose we have in meeting other people’s needs.  Mutual service is at the heart of all we do at Pacific.  It keeps the lifeblood of our community pumping and people flourishing.  Thank you! 

Principal’s Log

 It was amazing to hear on assembly this week about the impact of the College’s support of the Salvation Army for families in the Caloundra area.  As representatives of the Salvation Army accepted the cheque for over $9000 raised by our students through the Red Shield Appeal, Spider Day and the casual clothes day they reflected that these funds contributed to half of the funds raised by the Salvation Army in the Caloundra area for the year and that the food stuffs and household items donated by our community support families in our area through until Christmas.  The Salvation Army expressed their deep appreciation to our students and the Pacific community.

We congratulate our Senior B Girls Volleyball team who reached the grand final of the SCISSA volleyball competition.  After being undefeated all year they lost a tightly contested game against Glasshouse Christian College.  We thank the girls and coach Mrs Marg Gunn for their commitment and passion and look forward to 2019!

At the end of this term, Year 1 teacher Mrs Suzie Naidu will be taking maternity leave, Year 5 teacher Mrs Lu Pollard will be taking long service leave for Term 3 and Year 6 teacher Mrs Amanda Lowrie will be taking on a new role with the Australian Industry Trade College.  We look forward to welcoming Mrs Melanie Percival who has had extensive experience in both Australian and International schools as the Year 1 teacher, Mr Scott Massie from Education Queensland as the Year 5 teacher and Mr Damien Johns who has had experience in both Catholic and Lutheran Colleges as a primary and secondary teacher into the Year 6 role.  We will also be farewelling Mrs Rebecca Malone as we welcome back Head of English, Mrs Tina Cox who returns from long service leave at the start of next term.  We thank Mrs Amanda Lowrie and Mrs Rebecca Malone for their contribution to the College through their warm and professional support of our Year 6 and Middle and Senior College English and Humanities learners respectively.   We have appreciated their contribution to their different teacher teams as well as their support of young people.  We wish them and Mrs Naidu and Mrs Pollard every blessing in this next phase of their lives.
