Tertiary Applications Information Evening (Year 12 students and parents)

Current Year 12 students and their parents are encouraged to attend the Tertiary Applications Information evening on Tuesday 25th July, at 6.00pm, in the College Gym. This informative presentation will expand upon the information delivered recently to Year 12 students during PD lessons. Topics include:

•          Registering for and receiving your ATAR

•          Key dates for Tertiary application processes

•          Submitting an application to Queensland universities

•          Applying for early offer schemes

•          Managing applications in multiple states

•          ATAR adjustments, including special consideration for students who have experienced disadvantage

•          How universities make offers

•          How to respond to offers and enrol at university

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the session.

We look forward to you joining us for this very important information event.

 

TSXPO - Tertiary Studies Expo (Years 10 to 12)

15th and 16th July, Brisbane Showgrounds, 10.00am to 4.00pm
This careers expo is recognised by many as the most comprehensive higher education and careers event in Australia. It is certainly the biggest and the best in Queensland, with many exhibitors choosing to attend TSXPO, but not attend the smaller regional events. It is a one-stop shop for students and their families to gain insight into the vast array of courses and career opportunities available to them. All Queensland universities usually exhibit at this event, and there will be many of the major interstate universities there as well.

TSXPO is on at the Brisbane Showgrounds on Saturday and Sunday 15th and 16th July, from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Entry is free.

NOTE: There will be a smaller version of this expo at Venue 114, Bokarina, on Tuesday 18th July from 9.00am to 2.30pm.

 

Health Heroes Symposium (Years 10 to 12)

Thursday 3rd August, Kawana Waters State College Secondary Campus, 4.45pm – 6.30pm

In conjunction with the University of the Sunshine Coast, the Kawana Health Education Unit invites you to join medical professionals from around the Coast in live demonstrations and educational talks focusing on pathways to exciting future careers in the Health Industry. There will also be information available at the Symposium about the Health Certificate courses offered to Year 11 and 12 students by the Kawana Health Education Unit. The attached flyer provides details on how to register for this event.

 

Early offer program for ACU (Year 12)

The first university early offer program to open for applications each year is the ACU Guarantee program. ACU is a national university with campuses in various locations throughout Australia. The nearest campus is at Banyo, in the northern suburbs of Brisbane. ACU is hosting a webinar about the ACU Guarantee program on the evening of Tuesday 18th July. The webinar will run through the application process and will feature a panel of students who have been awarded an early offer in past years. Click here for more information and to register.

BOP Industries | Designing Your Products Workshop (Years 7-12)

Monday 26th June to Tuesday 27th June 2023

Do you have a business idea that you would love to bring to life? Join us at the Young Entrepreneurs Hub in June where we will be working to help you build and launch your own business.

Over two action-packed days, we will be working with high school students to build their own businesses as part of the Young Entrepreneurs Hub. With the program hosted at the WeWork Co-Working Space in Brisbane City, and facilitated by the BOP team of expert facilitators, this is a great opportunity for young people looking to bring their business ideas to life.

For our program on the 26th & 27th of June, we will have a specific focus on working with students to get their product or service ready to sell. Over the course of the two days, we will organise specialised masterclasses and expert mentors to work with students as we help students prototype and plan their products and services, identify key costs and potential pricing models, and explore the concept of a low-cost minimum viable product (MVP) to get them started.

UQ | Senior Mathematics Study Days (Years 11 and 12)

Monday 26th June to Tuesday 27th June 2023

Build your confidence, gain additional tips and skills, and get that extra edge for your assessments and exams with The University of Queensland’s Senior Maths Study Days.

Designed for Year 11 and 12 students and delivered online by UQ’s Associate Lecturer Wenbo Li, you will explore concepts in Mathematical Methods and/or Specialist Mathematics through exercises and workshops which include exam-style questions.

These days provide an excellent opportunity to enrich your mathematical understanding of the topics covered in the senior mathematics curricula and prepare you for tertiary mathematics studies.

Griffith | Design and Visual Arts Workshops (Years 10-12)

Monday 26th June to Friday 30th June 2023

From 2024 Queensland College of Art will be offering the option of portfolio admission. In this two-day workshop you will learn the do’s and don’ts of a successful portfolio.

Come along to see how you can make a portfolio that expresses your unique creativity. The workshop is tailored to those in Year 10 and above.

Participants choose to work in either Design or Visual Arts and by the end of the workshop will:

•          complete at least one piece of work for your creative portfolio

•          understand how to photograph and present your work for maximum impact

•          learn how to write about your own practice and creativity.

Design portfolio workshops are being offered at both the South Bank and Gold Coast Campuses. The Visual Arts portfolio workshop is only being offered at the South Bank Campus.

Griffith | Film School Experience Week (Year 11 and 12)

Tuesday 26th June to Friday 7th July 2023

The Griffith Film School prepares the next generation of filmmakers, animators and game designers for creative and exciting careers in the global industry. Our Experience Week is tailored to current Year 11 and 12 students considering future tertiary study at the Griffith Film School.

During the week-long program, participants will choose a study area and be taught by our highly skilled, industry connected teaching team and gain theoretical and practical skills. Participants will also complete a piece of work for their creative portfolio and get a feel for what it’s like to study at the Griffith Film School.

In 2023, you will have the choice to attend Experience Week either 26–30 June 2023, or 3–7 July 2023.

AFTRS | Intro to VFX & 3D Animation (Years 11 and 12)

Tuesday 26th June to Thursday 6th July 2023

This course aims to demystify the visual effects and animation industry by providing a core understanding of the workflows, processes and tasks involved in contemporary digital visual effects, animation and post-production.

Conducted by industry leader and creative professional, Alexander Hoetzer, you will be prepared to engage with a wide range of creative industries, and in a wide range of tasks. Gain insider perspectives on professional creative processes which will help close knowledge gaps in foundational topics and provide an overall perspective of visual effects and animation workflows.

It doesn’t matter how close or distant your dreams are, it is always good to know more. And this course is designed to help you choose the right pathway towards your first production, your first job, or just so you know what is going on behind the scenes of a blockbuster.

Suited for:

•          Anyone looking towards a career in visual effects or animation

•          Filmmakers and other screen content producers looking to integrate visual effects

•          Production management personnel who need to know more

•          This course is open to students aged 16 years and over (students under 18 must complete an Under 18 consent form).

UniSC | FashCamp 2023 (Years 10-12)

Tuesday 27th June to Thursday 29th June 2023

Are you a Year 10, 11 or 12 student interested in exploring your career potential in the exciting world of high fashion? If so, this three-day workshop is designed for you!

Come and try out fashion-styling, direct a fashion photography shoot and illustrate your ideas while you create content for digital media just like a fashion influencer on social media!

Incorporating the principles of sustainable fashion, you will work with a wide range of vintage clothing kindly donated by Bloomhill, a local not-for-profit charitable organisation.
