ACU Virtual Open Day (Years 10, 11 and 12)

This year ACU is running both on-campus and online Open Days. The choice is yours – immerse yourself in the campus atmosphere or join in online from the comfort of home.

UniSC Headstart Information Evenings (Years 11 and 12)

Moreton Bay: Tuesday 6th September 2022, 4.30pm – 6.00pm

Sunshine Coast: Thursday 8th September 2022, 4.30pm – 6.00pm

Online: Tuesday 13th September 2022, 5.30pm

Join us at our Headstart Information Evenings where we’ll take you through everything you need to know about the program.

Headstart gives Year 11 and 12 students a real university experience and sets you up for the future, allowing you to study first-year university subjects and receive credit to take time off your degree.

UniSC will cover the cost of the first course and additional courses are only $400, so you’ll also save money on your full degree!

We’ll take you through some of the key changes to Headstart for 2023 and answer all your questions so you’re ready to apply!

You’ll also hear from Headstart students who will talk about their experience and provide tips for what to expect.

Experience a day in the life of a Medical Researcher (Years 10, 11 and 12)

Friday 23rd September 2022, 8.00am – 3.00pm

QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute

Looking to get a taste of what it’s like working in a medical research laboratory? QIMR Berghofer hosts a one-day science experience program during the school holidays each year. Students can undertake a day of training in practical skills related to genetics, infectious disease or blood biology in our purpose-built education laboratory facilities.

The program is open to Queensland high school students in years 10, 11 or 12 and is free to attend.

NIDA Stage and Screen School, Brisbane (Years 7-10)

Monday 19th September 2022, 10.00am - Friday 23rd September 2022, 5.00pm

Venue TBC

Spend a week exploring performance for both stage and screen in this practical introduction to acting. Develop skills in improvisation, text analysis and script work then apply these skills to an on-screen performance. Present live and recorded scenes at the end of the week for your NIDA friends.

This school holiday class is suitable for students in Years 7-10.

RBA Economic Update Webinar for High School Students (Years 11 and 12)

Online

Aimed at students in Years 11-12, this webinar will feature an RBA economist sharing insights on monetary policy and current economic conditions. It’s a great opportunity for students to get the latest information about what’s happening in the Australian economy and pose questions to an RBA economist. Students and educators should register directly to attend this online event.

Calling all young writers aged 10-15 years. Join author Shelley Davidow for a half day of creative writing. Play with words, learn new skills, and make new friends in this exciting workshop.

Interested in politics? 2022 My First Speech Competition (Years10, 11 and 12)

2022 My First Speech competition is now open for entries.

Imagine yourself as a newly elected Member of the House of Representatives. Your task is to write a 90-second speech about issues you are passionate about then record yourself presenting the speech on video.

Australian students enrolled in Years 10 to 12 are invited to enter the ‘My First Speech’ competition.

You can enter as a school or as an individual.

Entries close Wednesday 31st August.

•          AVCAT Scholarships

Value: Up to $6,000 AUD per year

Open/Closing Dates: Thursday 18th August 2022 – Monday 31st October, 2022

AVCAT is a national charity providing tertiary education scholarships and bursaries to children and grandchildren of ex-serving veterans. We assist scholars each year to reach their potential through achieving a range of academic and personal goals.

•          UniSQ Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship

Value: Up to $20,000 AUD

Open/Closing Dates: Wednesday 3rd August, 2022 – Friday 10th March, 2023

The scholarship is to reward and support high academic achievers (ATAR 88+), who have completed Year 12 in 2022 and are commencing their studies at UniSQ in a bachelor’s degree program in 2023.

•          Griffith Chancellor’s Scholarships

Value: Up to $22,000 AUD

Open/Closing Dates: Wednesday 3rd August, 2022 – Monday 12th December, 2022

The Chancellor’s Scholarships are for students who have experienced financial hardship and/or educational disadvantage that has impacted their ability to achieve their full potential.

There are multiple scholarships available within the Chancellor’s Scholarships.

•          UQ Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship

Value: $12,000 AUD per year

Open/Closing Dates: Thursday 8th August, 2022 – Sunday 4th December, 2022

Provides financial support to students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements during their senior secondary studies and who aspire to undertake a coursework degree at UQ.
