Calling All Great Thinkers from Year 3-6!

It is with excitement that all Year 3-6 students are invited to join our Thinkers Club for Term 2. The Thinkers Club focuses on teamwork and the differing roles that occur within groups. Students will develop skills such as communication, collaboration, organisation, leadership, divergent thinking, creativity and problem solving.

Thinkers Club will be held during lunchtime on Tuesdays in the new OSHC building behind the Prep block, commencing in Week 3. Mrs Lu Pollard and Mrs Holly Humphrey will be coordinating the club.

Based on their attendance, enthusiasm and commitment, students will then be selected to participate in an Opti-Minds Junior Challenge Team in Term 3 (Saturday 26^th August). This is the first year that Pacific will be represented at Opti-Minds and we are greatly enthused at the prospect of providing this opportunity for our students. The challenge empowers participants to think, create and communicate. Teams will be required to solve demanding, open-ended challenges from one of the following categories: Science, Engineering or Social Sciences. If selected for an Opti-Minds Team in Term 3, students will be required to attend one afternoon after school per week (most likely Friday from 3.00pm – 4.00pm), along with their Tuesday lunch commitment for the six weeks leading up to Challenge Day.

As these challenges are based on sustainability, we will be calling for any recycled materials to be brought in for usage throughout Thinkers Club and the Opti-mind Challenge. We will arrange for some boxes to be placed on the outside veranda of OSHC for these materials to be collected.

So, if you are a student from Year 3- 6 and you love problem-solving, creating and working collaboratively with your friends, this could be the activity for you! Come along to our first Thinkers Club on Tuesday 2^nd May. Meet us at the gate by Prep at 12.50pm with your lunchboxes. We will eat lunch together before we start at 1.00pm with some fun, hands-on ‘brain teasers’.
