A reminder for Year 12 students about Tax File Numbers

Prospective university students are encouraged to apply early for a Tax File Number (TFN).  Students who gain entry to a university course must have a TFN to be able to defer their fee payment through HECS-HELP, FEE-HELP or a VET Student Loan. These loans are made on the basis you pay it later through the tax system. So if you don’t have a TFN, you won’t be able to finalise a government loan for study.  There are several ways to apply for a TFN.  Visit the Australian Tax Office website for details.  You need to apply early as it will take some time to receive your TFN. https://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/Tax-file-number/
